mrsbarker's Journal, 11 November 2008

So I have just come to the disappointing realization that the Holidays are going to be extremely hard for me this year. We have about forty people coming over to the house on Thanksgiving...this happens to be two days after my husband gets home from his six month deployment...I have a feeling that week is going to be nothing but bad food and killing myself for an hour a day on the bike or treadmill to try to compensate for all of the points I will be consuming! The following week on Dec 4th, I am taking my husband to see the Raiders play the Chargers. He is a die-hard Raiders fan...last time I went to a game...things did not go so well and I ate ENTIRELY too much junk food. Hopefully since it is on a week night, the tailgating won't be an issue like it was last time and we will just eat dinner before we go. :) Then on Dec 6th, my best friend's baby shower. Oh all the fattening food that will be there! :( The 11th is my husband's Command Christmas Party at the Sheraton here in San Diego, the 19th is the Christmas party for my office at a really fancy steakhouse and the 20th is his family's Christmas party up north where there will be about 70 people and it is potluck-style...we all know how that is around the holidays...sugar, fat and more sugar and fat! Then there is Christmas and New Years. Of course everyone that I know is in their 20's and ready to party...so I am sure we will get sucked into going out! So I guess I have two more weeks of doing somewhat well before I start struggling and eventually fall off...then I will make my new years resolution the same as every year...get back on track and keep losing the weight. I know that this is definitely the wrong way to look at it, but it feels inevitable. I am tempted to try the Core Plan through the holidays, but my co-worker (who I do ww with) said that I would probably have a hard time with it and hate the core plan so I should wait until I have a good chance to try it properly. I think that is a good idea. So...I just have to make sure I plan plenty of exercise into my incredibly busy schedule over the next month and a half and hope that my body works with me.

Yep, holiday's can be a huge challenge. I'm hoping to do what I did during last year's holiday season...keep a large portion of fruits, nuts, and small veggies around that I could nibble on all day. That helped my hunger so when the big meals came around I only ate a very small portion. So that's my plan of attack again this year. Overall, do what you can. I wish you well.

Now, Mrsbarker, where is your WW meeting director?? Keep that negative self talk away!! "before I start struggling and eventually fall off"-- NEGATIVE!! I started WW last year a week after Thanksgiving, so went through Christmas and New Years and was still able to hit my 10% in January. YOU CAN DO THIS!! Plan ahead as much as possible, eat small amounts of what you do yield to, and stay on track on days that you don't have events to go to. You have done great and will continue to do so with a POSITIVE attitude and outlook. Remember your reason for doing this-- YOU and your HEALTH!!
