Its Friday!! It's Friday!! Hey everyone It's Friday!!

Today is official weigh in day, and go to the gym pool day!! Its also the weekend, and me and the hubby's Firehouse Subs night!! I think I enjoy these subs a little better than Subway......hmmm.

Anyway, I hope I have good numbers to post later today. On another subject, my Mom is doing lots better and my get to go home today!! Yay!! She is 82, and still pretty feisty, even though she walks with a walker. The docs seem to think she may have developed diverticulitis. It would explain her symptoms the day she went to the hospital. Raspberry pie will get you every time with that. I'm just glad she's doing better!!

I think I may have mentioned a picnic we have every year, for my mom. It is kind of like a family reunion and neighborhood cook out / get together. My sister has it at her house, because she has the parking, and yard space etc for it. They have a HUGE garage, where they set up tables and chairs, and have a buffet style setup. Its a pot luck too. Everyone brings something. I usually take a very large bowl of cucumber salad. Mom loves it. I just put in Cukes, and onions, and top it off with cesar style italian dressing. Super easy. I make it the night before.

I was talking to mom about my diet, and all, and told her I have given myself permission to eat what I want (within reason) at the picnic. If I gain a few pounds, oh well!! I'll just go back to counting calories and watching what I eat the day after! She laughed, and said that works!! She is really proud of me for what I am doing. I really am grateful for her support!

So, this is the next step and part of the diet. Giving yourself permission to eat at a gathering. You can still watch what you eat if you want. I just mean you can eat that piece of cake if you want, just make it a small slice. not half the cake!!! The key is moderation!!!! Portion control, and just don't eat if you're not hungry!!! I plan on making me a nice plate, with a little of everything, I will just use a tablespoon to serve it up instead of everyones serving spoons. Those things hold around a half cup to a cup!

When you restrict certain foods in your diet, thats when you really want them, and then you tend to go overboard and over eat it. I try not to restrict myself too much. If I get a craving, I try my best to satisfy that craving by eating whatever it is (potato chips, chocolate, whatever) VERY SLOWLY.!!

Yep, as slow as possible, and I enjoy and savor every bite. I might look a little manic or crazy doing it, but I find that if you do this, and put down what ever you are eating in between bites, you find that you only need a bite or two to satisfy that urge!! Its a tiny bit hard to do that with an ice cream cone, but order a baby cone, instead of a regular size cone!! You can still savor that taste, its just a little bit messy!! or order a childs size in a cup. Most shops will do that for you. We have a place here that gives you a ridiculous size cone!! Its so big, its almost a pint on a cone!!! I don't get the regular there because of that!

The whole point is, use your common sense. Gobbling up something just because its there, and not tasting one bite of it, is how some of us got in this situation in the first place!!! Learn to taste what you eat!! Savor the flavors!! Put your fork down in between bites!! A good tip for eating out, when you finish giving your order, tell your server to put half of your order in a take out box for you! You then end up with a more realistic portion, and you have lunch for the next day!!!

This tip is good for those of us that were raised to "eat everything on our plate". It really helps with that little bit of guilt we feel for not clearing everything off of that restaurant size plate!!!

Ok, enough of that. Time to get ready and go see the Dr!! I'll update this later with a weigh in!! Everyone have a wonderful day and keep that diet battle raging!!! I'll be right here, backing you up!!

Lots of great tips here. I totally agree with the idea of not restricting your diet to just certain foods. I tried Atkins for a week long ago but I couldn't do it. Too restrictive. I immediately started craving everything I couldn't have. Total backfire. Your poor Mom! I had an attack of diverticulitis last January. So painful and frightening. Thank goodness she is doing better. Good luck at the doctor.
