EmTheQueen's Journal, 13 April 2016

So I saw my doctor today and here is the rundown. He is going to check my cortisol levels so we can rule out Cushing's and put my mom's mind at ease since she's been really worried about this. I have to collect pee for 24 hours and bring it to him and I will also get blood work done.
He has also put in a referral for me to see an OBGYN because I have irregular, very heavy, very painful periods that typically resulted in missed school and work, inability to eat, move, etc. I've been this way as long as I have had my period so I never really talked to a doctor about it but he wants me to get checked out, have my ovaries especially looked into, probably the womb too. I'd be glad to do that though because I don't think it's normal for a nineteen year old to be wanting a histirectomy (I think I spelled it wrong) to make the pain stop.
The good news of the day is I got to hold baby Baylor and he's sooooo cute! Also, one of the things I worried about most for my future with my girlfriend, me not wanting kids, is resolved because she doesn't want them either! We're both too young for kids but it's good to know if things go for the long run. Anyway, I'm off to wash dye from my hair. Goodnight y'all!

Have them check for endometriosis. My sister had years of issues (horribly painful periods, pain in the abdomen almost constantly) and was finally diagnosed when she was 19. It was stage 4 endometriosis.

Get an Iodine loading test. 40 bucks. And how much carbs are you eating a day? Start taking 200 to 400 micrograms of selenium a day as well.

I used to have horrible periods, from teens to twenties. After the birth of my child, I got an IUD (the Merena 5 year) put in place. It is a gift from God - with lighter periods, until they disappeared. Now, I have one day a year; absolute opposite of the horrible horrible, missing days of life, irregular, super heavy times I was used to. (there was mild to moderate cramping for the first 3 months or so, made it past that- and it is perfect!). Good luck. I hope you find relief. And think about the IUD.

Oh gawd, I had endometriosis and adenomyosis too. It was impossibly painful. Hang in there, k?

Very heavy periods can also make you anemic, which can make you exhausted. I was on birth control pills for many years to make my periods manageable, even for many years when I did not yet need them for contraceptive purposes. I hope you get whatever medical help that will make you feel your best. And I'm psyched that you and your girlfriend have shared visions for the future!

Thank you all. Honestly, considering I'm not going to have kids, or if I ever change my mind I would adopt. In any case, getting the tests done to find out if it's something easily fixed or not seems like a good plan to me. I'd sooner die than wait ten years to see if it stops. I am at risk of polycystic ovarian syndrome and have been warned of that by a couple doctors over the last few years, I'm just waiting now to see if it's a simple fix like a hormone imbalance or what

Have them do an ultrasound for fibroid tumors also- they caused me much misery until menopause solved that- now there are treatments...you probably would NOT lose your fertility!

Hi Em, as Suzy said, you are very young so maybe put the family planning stuff on hold!! I hope you feel better soon! I'm curious how your hair is going to turn out to be! What color?
