SherrieC's Journal, 12 March 2015

Hey everyone, I just have a strange question that I am sure you will be able to answer for me. Can Gatorade cause weight gain, if you drink to much of it??

Thanks

Sherrie

Yes, the salt can make you retain water.

Salt is one thing.... my god the sugar content is horrible too. That amount of simple processed sugar in those drink will get you no where on a diet. Drink water like smart water for extra electrolytes

Most sports drinks are high in electrolytes which for re-hydration is good. But if you are drinking them without the need of the re-hydration they provide your body will store this fluid in the fat cells resulting in weight gain/retention.

I will be the third voice saying yes, it can. Both through additional water retention, and in the form of additional body fat (assuming the Gatorade consumption, in addition to your regular eating throughout the day are providing your body with more calories than it uses).

I normally drink a bottle of Powerade ZERO after exercising... no sugar. Might want to try that if you like that kind of thing
