hoosier436's Journal, 03 August 2014

Well today is a new day! Wow, I can not believe how "bad" I was last night. My wife and I have a good relations with my ex sister in law (sorry to say better than my relationship with my brother). Anyway, I tried to be conservative on my eating supper there-- boy was I surprised when I got home and recorded everything-- geez.. I went over my limit.
I did not get much sleep last night, so I was not surprised either that I
"gained" 3 lbs from the last time I weighed myself. Not really concern bout it, since like I said that I did not get much sleep.
I find it interesting that, almost every time, when someone asked me how did I loose so much weight and they need to loose X amount of weight.. and I tell them their response is "Oh that is too much work!" Yeah I know that I am eating a lot of Lean Cusine, Healthy Choice etc etc- but what is the difference between that and ordering "special diet plan foods?" Anyway, sorry for the rabbit trail there, I guess people do not realize that it is HARD WORK.. to loose weight.. well maybe not hard work-- but work! All of the recording is paying for the most part off. The recording is a great tool to become aware of what you are eating and how much your calorie intake is. My wife does not record everything that she eats.. but focuses on eating healthier - which is fine and I can understand where she is coming from-- trying to get into the life style change.. I want to as well, and at least trying too.. I guess there are a lot of people that are stuck in the "fast food philosophy of the American Mindset"- I want results without the work, and I want it now. Instead of looking at the future-- seeing the goal and planning and aiming for that goal.
A lot of people do not realize that they need to have a plan and be dedicated to that plan. Does that mean that they will fail, or fall of the horse, of course they will- people are human we all will make mistakes and fail. But what kind of character will they have after facing the mistakes- will they give up- or get back on the horse and realize that today is a new day..a new start?
Yes, once in a great while I slipped like last night and today. Today I had a sausage egg and cheese biscuit while waiting for my son to get off of work== still waiting- the stupid manager and assistant manager has not shown up yet, he tried to call them- no response- so he called the district manager-- she is coming in-- he works thirds at a gas station)..
I am so glad that I have you guys to just talk too.. my wife has started to complain that I am "talking" too much bout my weight journey on facebook.. Geez.. I keep hearing her saying "Well I am not you" I wish that she would take the same advice.. I am not her.. and I am different.. I know that it sounds like that we are having marriage problems, but we really are not.. I do love her-- and she loves me.. we are just different.. oh well
Ok time is up.. finally a person has come in and releaved my son...an hour and a half after he was suppose to get off...

I hope you got your son a sandwich too! He deserves it geez! Some people are so irresponsible. They say opposites attract. I think it's true. If you fell in love with yourself you would A. be a narcissist and B. Get bored with your marriage fast. That's why we all have this place right?

Wow! That is so true. You are correct, when you say you have got to have a plan, and that because you are human you will make mistakes, but how many times do you plan to fail? That is the magic question I had to ask myself. Everytime, I failed on my way of eating, I gave in and gave up. Back where I started from "still fat." So now I take the approach of "You give everything else your best, why not give yourself the best?" I learn to say NO and mean it. I have started to say NO to foods that I know that my plan says I should not have (while I miss it), I know that if I do reach for it, I gave up for momentary satisfaction. Now, I just want more for me. I think I deserve it. But everyone has to find there own path in their quest to lose the weight. Thanks for your blog. It really questions the human spirit. Good luck and know you CAN DO IT!!!

I don't plan to "fail" or "fall off the horse.. sort of speaking.. but it happens...like last night.. Last night, I "thought" that I was in the "safety" zone on on the calorie in take.. but I took the chance and drank that apple ale (never had one before.. and I usually do not drink at all--- VERY RARE.. <maybe once or twice a year- and the drink- wine coolers>) and then I was shocked when I started to record what I ate.. So I missed the mark-- today is a new day.. onward and forward.. yes it is a big deal.. but I need to learn and move on..

Just adjust over the next couple days and go on. defiantly a plan and a plan to readjust after deviating from that plan.

I guess, what I am really saying is how many times do we have to keep restarting until we get it right? Portion sizes did not help me, as I was still eating the wrong things. I had to really learn my plan. When ever I am now in doubt, I just eat veggies and meat or fish. You did what you thought like you said was safe. But that was a learning curve that you learned after you inputted it into your food journal. Now you will look at future outings with an "eagle" eye. The main point is nutritional eating was on your mind and that is a good thing. Hey, dust yourself off and look forward as yesterday is gone.

C67241, I never think of restarting. I started this journey ages ago, at least it seems so, it's tweaking it to fit my changing body, it's tweaking to fit my lifestyle, it's veering off that plan here and there as part of the journey. I have times, like this week, I do my best to stick mostly to my plan but life happens, life is often fun and interesting, and go with the flow. I know this week will end, I will go back to my ordinary routines and it's ok. Right now, it's Sunday the last day of my vacation and I've a blast with my family and a few friends splattered in, the weeks has been good.

I would read the Lean Cuisine boxes REALLY close and look at the amount of sodium you are taking in. All food has to get taste from SOMEWHERE. Otherwise everything would taste like eating a handkerchief. That high sodium translates into water retention. Your best bet is to completely avoid any processed food. It may require you to cook more often, but that's half the fun of it is being as creative in the kitchen as you are in other aspects of life. It may help you to think about it this way. For this one aspect of your life, step outside of the microwaved, remote controlled world we have come to accept. Why order diet plan food? Is their broccoli any different from the organic broccoli at the healthy food store, or is it that it saves 15 minutes of your life to order and have it delivered? When cooking that broccoli, does it really detract from your day to take that 12 seconds a and set it on a scale to see the portion size? Sure Nutrisystem will do that for you, as will Jenny Craig, but geeze, this is literally your life you are talking about. I SO hate to hear "I still get an apple for today" and such nonsense that comes from those packaged diet plans. You really need to pay someone to make you aware that eating a whole cheesecake in a sitting is not good for you? I may have a different perspective because I no longer have to go to a job every day. When I was still working I fell into the "Healthy Choice" trap too. Those "healthy" meals are awful for you. Anything that has to sit in a store has preservatives in it. Those preservatives not only preserve the food, they will sit in your body and "preserve" it as well. You seem to have the knowledge. Now force yourself to take an hour a week to put that knowledge into action. Take a step back from the stress and spend that hour on YOU.

Everything packaged by law has to contain preservatives. I almost commented earlier, why wait until you lose weight to eat clean. Eating clean will help you lose the weight.

Ok-- I feel like I need to "defend" myself--on eating one "healthy choice" Lean Cusine, and Oscar Mayer Turkey cold cuts.. 1. I have lost 70 lbs since April 2014! Notice I said April 2014, not April 2013... that alone is amazing, even from the comment from my doctor..at the time I saw him I had lost 46 lbs on July 3rd of this year (in one month I have lost nearly 23 lbs- close to .76 lbs a day) 2. Due to our work schedules it is difficult for my wife and I to cook "healthy meals" that will last.. 3. Ok- now on to my blood results... Hemoblobin <diabetes> 13.3(4/14), 5.10 <7/25> cholesterol 202 <4/24>, 133 <7/14> range 125-200 hdl cholesterol 35 <4/14>, 30 <7/14> range > or =40 triclycerides 139 <4/14>, 109 <7/14> range <150 ldl 139 <4/14>, 81 <7/14> range < 130 chol/hdlc 5.8 non hdl 167 ------------- So from my blood work, I must be doing something right... from my weight loss I must be doing something right...

Keep up the good work! What works for you is important and sometimes others will say things that they feel is wrong or bad for you but only you know what works for you. Lots of trials and errors but out of these we learn. With my GF eating it is getting better and feeling better after eating is so great, Yes its hard work but most things we want out of life is not easy, We appreciate it more I believe. You are doing great and I to have noticed some people are not reading our journals correctly as I do have had to reply what some have seemed to missed. God Bless my friend!

Yep - if you can't give them the magic bullet in 4 words or less, you lose them. I used to just answer 'kale... lots and lots of kale...' to gauge their commitment.
