BG 99, steps 7993 ; Things are going really well. My daughter and I have been studying the paleo WOE for sometime now. As I found I can NEVER eat grains again, I'm switching my WOE to more paleo. My daughter (33) is in the same boat so she and I will be doing this together. I just wanted to say Atkins is awesome!!!!! It was cutting out all grains that saved me AND proved that they were why I've been so sick for years!!! With my daughter's and my own grain sensitivities we both agree this is the best way to go for us. I'm also addicted to Mark's Daily Apple blog lol.

The whole decision is hard to describe as it goes back so many years ago when I was just a little girl and my family doctor was trying to find out why I was always underweight and sick. I was even admitted to the hospital to have a gland removed for further study. I've had scurvy and the rickets at least twice in my life and I missed so much school I was held back in the 1st grade and again in the 7th and ended up quitting 8th grade 3 days in because I just couldn't mannage. I went home and went to bed instead because I was too sick. The problem I was having to grain products didn't stand out because I was allergic to so many foods anyway. ....sigh.. long story and my daughter has a simular story as well.

Anyway I'm really excited that my daughter and I are doing this together. She has lupus, asthma (she actually stops breathing) and an army of other problems just like me so, we're starting our adventure together!! Wish us luck!!

NO WAY Stef!!! I LOVE you ALL here on FS!!! My daughter and I've been talking and she cut out grains over a week ago and her symptoms are much better. She's ecstatic -- bouncing off the walls even though she didn't cut her carb intake!! Anyway, I'm still low carbing of course because I'm diabetic but that's going away it looks like..

That is so sad Ruby - I'm glad you have found what triggers some of your health problems. I feel for you and your daughter. I have asthma and it can limit the activities you can safely do in life. I used to have to go to the emergency room at least once a year with a bad atack that wouldnt go away and get a steroid shot but knock on wood - I haven't in 2 years. My asthma is still there but better since I take Advair. I'm going to go research paleo now to see what it is. :)

Thank you Amanda. I'm also wondering if there is a connection concerning pre-diabetes, diabetes 2 and fibromyalgia. It seems to me that they have escalated considerably in correlation with processed foods and sugar and grain based products availability. As we know, processed foods often have contain not only chemicals and sugars but grains as well.

I do wish you luck Ruby and your Daughter, it is exciting to think that you may have the answers to so many of your health problems. I don't know what Paleo is but I will for sure research it. I am an asthmatic and have been since I was about 3. I have been in the hospital to many times to mention for those shots that make you feel like the back of your head exploded. My asthma is in control with Ventolin and Sembicort but seem to hit ER at least twice a year. I also have sleep apnea, I should wear my cpap machine but its like being hooked up to the mother ship, doesnt make for a peaceful sleep but then waking up with a headache from hell isnt funny either. It is getting much better with the weight loss. The best to you Ruby, we are all here for you. :)

Thank you Lenny, my friend :D There are several opinions on paleo. Some say to keep low fat and no dairy. Obviously, I'm so not into lowfat lol and I like a little cheese sometimes. What I AM interested in is results. BTW I read the online blog, Mark's Daily Apple and have Mark Sissons book, The Primal Blueprint. I've also read other books but I think Mark has a more realistic approach. I think what I like best is we're free to mold it into what works for us best. My daughter called yesterday morning and said, "mom I feel really weird. I'm breathing better and for the first time in my WHOLE life, I feel like running!!!!" What can I say?? Results :D

Good for your daughter (and you). That must be quite a realization after all this time. Best of luck to both of you as you work on improving your health!
