Current Weight
198.8 lb
Performance: losing 11.2 lb a week

Goal Weight
150.0 lb
Still to go: 48.8 lb
I'm 38 years old, a mom of four kids. As you can see I have a full household. I recently remarried to the most wonderful man in this world. He is a very nice & kind gentleman that has given me nothing but love and support.

I started Atkins on 1/10/11 @ 207 lbs. according to my home digital scale. In the first week I lost about 6 lbs. I had a gain in the second week, but I dropped it all and a couple more pounds which felt great after feeling so bummed about the gain. It reinforced that as long as I persevere and I am determined, I will see results.

I go to the gym at least 3 times a week to make sure my muscles stay strong. One of the reasons is because I have a very bad back condition which has also contributed to me gaining weight over the last year. It was just hurting too much to move and eating seemed to comfort me while I was trying to manage my pain.

Anywho, I have one short term goal, which is to be thin enough to fit into my sister's size 12 jeans by my birthday in May. She promised I coud have one of her Lucky Brand jeans which I love. My sister is also trying Atkins, it's her first time, but she's still struggling. However she has much less weight to lose than I. As she said, her size 12 jeans are her FAT jeans and she's having trouble putting even those on. : ) She's so cute... I love her.

Medium term goal is to be a size 10, because my husband and I plan to visit his native country, Egypt in the fall. I will meet his parents in person for the first time so I would like to be thinner. Long Term goal is to get down to 150 lbs. I haven't done that since 1993. God help me!

I've found some really cool people here with similar backgrounds and weightloss goals. I find a lot of support in them and for that I'm very grateful!

Add me if you need a bud!

Amia,

I had the same thing happen to me and the issue with the stix also made me crazy. I stopped using them just because they are so unreliable and I read all over the place that being on your period could affect the results of the stix.

I was having a lot of cheese with my meals. I'm not a cheese person, but I found that the cheese would keep me full longer. So I reduced the cheese, changed my half and half to heavy cream (which tastes better by the way and you use less of it), increased my water intake and dropped diet soda. I'm drinking no coffee right now, but still drink tea with heavy cream. There is a connection between caffeine and not being able to lose weight. caffeine is not a fat burner from what I understand, it is more of a diurectic.

I have been on atkins for 3 weeks now and have lost 12 pounds. I had a gain in between and was stuck at 198 for a week, then this week lost 3 pounds.

I also try not to weigh myself everyday. When I see the scale move even one ounce up, I get anxious and I'm sure that doesn't help my weightloss out. I'm going to try to not weight myself all this week. I will stick to the plan and hopefully i'll see another loss by next week.

Don't despair... stick it out and you will not regret it. check out our diet calendars and get ideas, especially from those who are really doing great.

We're all here to support you too... so drop a line and we'll cheer you on anytime.

first wk and a 4lb loss is this ok ?
Hi Lindsey,

4 lbs. is great. if you're following the diet precisely, you'll lose this much and more in the next week. yes, at first water weight, but key is to get into ketosis mode which starts you burning your fat stores. thats where you're gonna kick start your metabolism.

atkins says you don't have to do exercise, but it is a good idea to do it. cardio helps burn more calories while resistance/weights will help you build the muscle you are keeping on this diet, which in turn burns fat even more.

my first week was a "trial" week, cuz I messed up big time. However my second week was much better and this week is off to a great start.

you'll find awesome ppl here... you'll love it. : )

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
i'm the same, can't go to the bathroom without weighing myself. i'm thinking of telling my husband to put it in his car that way he can still weight himself if he wants to. i just think it really messes with our head. i keep thinking, "did my husband weight himself and the scale got stuck?" Crazy.

Constipation during Induction... ugh!!
i have the same problem with constipation. the first week was really bad so i took benefiber 2 times a day and then i had a movement or two and haven't had one since. it's been like 6 days already. i had weight gain this week but i know i was retaining water cuz from one day to the other all that weight was gone plus more. i am drinking a lot of water, a lot. I'm drinking iced tea and hot tea throughout the day. usually coffee makes me go, but seems to do nothing while on this diet. i think today i will take something strong to make my stomach move.

be patient with the weight loss. it is true, some of us are metabolic resistant. our bodies are so smart that they tend to even fight us in the fight to lose weight especially during the first few weeks.

exercise is not necessary according to atkins, but it's good for you. i think if i didn't do some exercise i'd feel a little sluggish at times. i walked 50 minutes last night on the threadmill, i hadn't done that since last friday. i was having trouble sleeping and waking up in the morning and worse still staying up. i slept like a baby and i'm up early today.

also, we have to be careful what fiber supplements we take as some have carbs. benefiber is 3 carbs/serving, but no sugar cuz it's the plain stuff, however fiber doesn't count towards net carbs. Just be careful with the flavored stuff.

Anyone in the Corona/Inland Empire area of California?
i'm new here too and looking to lose 50 lbs. before the end of this yr, but I really want to lose 25 before May 20th, my 39th bday. I'm on atkins... it's worked great in the past and seems to be working this time. i'm down 6 pounds so for now it's good.

if anyone is willing to buddy up with me to support one another and maybe even join a class or meet up for walks, that would be nice. i have my baby sister pushing me too, but she's way out near the beach so it's not easy for us to get together and do some exercising...

best of luck to all!
