I am a 28 year old married (no kids) woman living in the Tampa Bay area. I am a law student. In the past I have done Weight Watchers with pretty good success (I used to weigh 314). I joined FatSecret at first because of the awesome Calorie Counter app for Droid. Now two of my best friends (hehlh01 and srf99) have joined and we are here supporting each other in this journey. I am trying to keep my caloric intake below 2000 a day and exercise 4 times per week (I started out with 1 time per week in January and have done pretty well in progressively increasing). Feel free to message me if anything on here sounds interesting to you :)

Update, 1/4/2011: I lost 12 pounds last year, and I am actually pretty proud of that. Having also discovered during the last year that I am capable of exercising at least 5 times a week, my new plan is to do so. Furthermore, I plan to keep my calories at no more than 1850 on the days I don't exercise and no more than 2050 on the days that I do.

My tools for success:
1) Fatsecret
2) Food scale
3) "Get Fit with Mel B." and "The Fight" for PS3 Move
4) Access to two gyms with weight training equipment
5) Scale
6) Measuring Tape
7) Microsoft Excel

It would be a shame to waste all that, right?

Hey Atkins people - why lie?
Well I, for one, hope they don't pull the bars off the shelves because I think they taste good and they don't leave me feeling as jacked up as I do when I eat a Snickers. But I'm not on Atkins, so I don't limit my net carbs as much. I can see how it would be upsetting to think you are getting a certain number and then find out you are getting more.

Fathead
Yeah, I thought Raisin Bran was an interesting choice too.

Fathead
I just watched it the other night and wrote a journal about it. I wish I would have known all the things they talked about years ago.

Is Food Addiction Real?
Great article! Thanks for posting it. I can certainly see a difference in cravings and binge eating after eliminating gluten, which I am sensitive to, and soft drinks (I never really bought into that connection with cravings until recently). I'm sure that the addictive properties are not exactly the same as drug addiction, but I do know what they are talking about when they mention "withdrawal." For me, it is just a slightly "edgy" feeling. Anyway, I think the biggest problem is lack of education. It is necessary for people to feel the difference between eating sketchy highly-processed foods versus foods that are less so. But, most people won't take that first step, I think, because it just does not seem to be an obvious thing to do. When most of the country eats a certain way, it becomes the normal thing to do. That makes it harder to make the connection between the foods one eats and feeling like crap all the time.

Whey Protein Powder - Got advice?
Hi Jessie! You could try adding ricotta cheese into your smoothies. It has 5g of whey protein per 1/4 cup. My husband has been making these protein shakes without using powder and I think they taste great!
