13 April 2010

Two things about the last few days.
One, I have been very indisciplined. Over the last weekend, April 9-11, I not only ate and drank quite indiscriminately, I also committed the first breach of the 'poison foods' rule, and ate a piece of chocolate. Plus all the cheese and khajur and one kalakand as well, over and above two eating outs, one of which, with Tara, was 4 wedges of pizza at Amici in Khan Market (thin crust, wheat base and low cheese, but pizza nonetheless).
Two, weight has not changed during this period. I have been shy of actually recording it, but daily checks have shown it to fluctuate between 93.1 and 92.4 -- routine oscillations attributable to water retention and time of weighing etc. (Right now, at 1 pm on April 13, it showed up as 92.6 kg).
Therefore, it can be concluded that the earlier premise (which showed up following similar eating patterns last weekend as well) that if I more or less stick to discipline over, say, a month, even 4-5 days of moderate bingeing can be handled, stands reaffirmed.
And, and this is bad news, weight loss is again plateauing. But the good news here (if it can be called so) is that I am still not gymming, and the apparent plateau is coinciding with a binge phase, and things can, therefore, be expected to only improve.

April 6, 11.15 am: There is a challenge up today on this site: losing 10 lbs in 4 weeks, which is, 4.5 kg in a month. I am not going to follow the week-by-week steps it recommends, but I am up for it so far as the final goal goes. So on May 5, I should be down to 87.9 kg from my current 92.4 kg. It's a tougher challenge than my own, easier, goal of falling under 90 by the time May arrives, but let's see how close I can get.
(Losing a pound means consuming 3,500 fewer calories. So, losing 10 lbs will follow from eating 35,000 fewer calories, or 1,166 fewer calories every day, for the next 30 days. By the Harris-Benedict equation, after having lost some weight, I now need just under 2,300 calories every day to hold on to my weight. So, if I am to lose this weight purely by eating fewer calories, I will have to stay under 1,134 calories, more or less, every day. Which is pretty much impossible; besides, I will probably feel ill or weak. It would seem imperative that I return to the gym, therefore, if I have to win this challenge.)

31 March 2010

Have been very indisciplined and lax of late. The will to stick to the diet seems to be flagging. I have not binged on anything really harmful like chocolate or fried foods etc, and managed to stick to the no-desserts position, yet, the weakening of the resolve has been manifest in the creeping indiscipline in the record-keeping, and in occasional bursts of defiant eating, like the evening when I had 12 momos and a kulfi waiting for Mimi, or the hogging late at night. To be less harsh, the good news is that I have still gone from 96.6 kg on March 4 (though this record shows 97 kg) to 93.3 kg on March 31, and if I can lose 700 g in the next 3 days to fall to 92.6 kg on April 3, I would have lost 4 kg in a month. Which isn't all that bad, plus falling into the 92s will be a barrier overcome. And then, hopefully, by the beginning of May, I can go under 90... that will be an achievement.
