28 June 2011

Ok, 1,453 yesterday, and (an anticipated) 1,191 today, so 2,644 already, and the 2,700-in-3-days gone for a six. It was expected; making up a binge like this weekend's is going to take several days of moderation, can't race through it, there'll be too much hunger to pay in the make-up period.
Big-picture is this: Assuming I ate a total 5,000 calories at dinner at M-G's and over the whole day Sunday, then, adding up the rest of the numbers in the Diet Calendar, I have consumed, assuming I don't cross the anticipated 1,191 today, a total 12,299 calories in the six days since June 23. Which works out to 2,050 calories per day, which is 150 calories more than the targeted maximum intake of 1,900 calories per day over the 3-week diet period, but a total deficit of 900 calories over the 6 days from June 23-28. Which is still grim, but which also means that all is not lost yet, and I am in with a shout to achieve the target.
Tomorrow is weigh-in day. Should have shown a loss of 1 kg, but now probably no longer will. But if the next weigh-in, another week on, shows a loss of 2 kg, I'll be okay.
(Lesson: Eating out is a killer, when will you learn? And have to refuse Keshto's invitations while on a diet; he's an especially unhealthy cook.)

As we go for Madhavi and Gil's party tonight, the 600 + 259 = 859 bonus calories that I have acquired over the past two days will come in handy. I will be able to use that to indulge a bit tonight. In number terms, this is how it will work:
To achieve target weight loss of 3 kg or 6.6 lb by July 13, I must consume no more than 1,900 calories a day. Which means, in 3 days, 5,700 calories. On the 23rd and 24th, I consumed a total 1,251 + 1,592 = 2,843 calories, so coming into Saturday, I had a headroom of 2,857 calories. Of this, I consumed 1,812 calories by 7 pm, so going into the party, I have a headroom of 1,045 calories.
This is approximate, because the calorie counts here are inflated as compared to my own calculations. Like, the Mother Dairy vanilla yogurt I had said 94 calories on the label, but I have added 223 calories, because that's what the database here says for "low-fat vanilla yogurt 1 cup". And I have added "1 oz hamburger" for 3 bites of a grilled fish steak burger that Mimi ordered at Dimsum Dimsum in Khan Market in the afternoon.
But in any case, whatever I eat or drink will go above 1,075 calories, and will have to be balanced over the next few days so that the ultimate target doesn't go off-radar.
Let's see.

Day 1 wasn't bad, and I don't see why I can't do at least this, if not more, consistently. 1700 calories in the green, which is a 600-calorie bonus on the 1,100-calorie requirement for the target weight loss, so quite satisfactory. The mind, and greed, are my greatest enemies, to whom I have lost all my life. The key to not feeling hungry last night was the Rs 10-worth chana at around 10.30 pm; must do this as often as I can.
One observation. The diet calendar is very good because it gives calculations straight away, but problematic because quantities and recipes don't match the data on the site. (Have discussed this before.) For example, yesterday, I had no way of adding the vegetables (it was aaloo-beans) that Pushpa wraps and gives in the chapatis. However, I am quite sure that her chapatis won't add up to the 120 cals that I have added basis the reading on this site (these chapatis must be huge), and the 'lost' vegetables, or at least a significant part of them, have showed up invisibly in the calorie count for the chapatis.
Again, I couldn't add the vegetables she gave me for breakfast this morning (there was chochorri and a little uchchhe bhaja), but I have added extra for the fruit (I ate 4 jamuns, which is 8 calories by the site, and 6 litchis, which is 36, so in all, this calculation adds up to 44, which is 153 calories less than what has been recorded, 187 calories), so that should make up somewhat.
Overall, I am assuming things will balance out, and let me in any case assume that 25% of calories eaten are going unrecorded. As I have always assumed.

23 June 2011

Ok, so here I come back, goaded on and shamed (somewhat) by the fortnightly reminders from Fatsecret, over a year after I stopped watching my weight. Many reasons: dug-up CP, the break with Fitness First, the tremendous pressure at work that ensured I came back home at around 2.30 am every night and the consequent inability to get up early enough the following morning, a horrible spell of illness for over a month in the middle, and so on. But at the end of it, it is, as it has been for as long as I have known myself, weakness of will.
It's 95.6 kg this morning, 3 kg heavier than the lightest I have been while on this programme, and back to about what I was on my birthday last year.
Is there a goal? Well, let me try and lose as much weight as possible by July 13, when we go off on the vacation. Getting back to 92.6 is probably going to be impossible, but let me try. That would be 3 kg in 21 days, or 1 kg a week.
What would that mean in eating terms? 3 kg is 6.6 lbs. According to an earlier calculation in this journal, 3,500 fewer calories converts into the loss of an lb of weight. So, losing 6.6 lbs means eating 23,100 fewer calories over the next 21 days starting today (and continuing till July 13). That is, eating roughly 1,100 fewer calories every day.
According to the exercise measurer on this site, at my weight, without going to the gym, and continuing exactly with my same lifestyle, I burn around 3,000 calories per day.
Which means that on any given day, I MUST NOT consume more than 1900 calories.
Not too tough. But let's see.
