weight loss through the power of positive thinking
I have found that getting older helps with this, too. You start to really recognize patterns (of negativity, of emotional eating, and other unhealthy behaviors unique to you) and you lose your clutch on them. Also, when you are an adult and start to take on a lot of responsibility in life, I think you just naturally feel better about yourself--like you said, you realize that you are a good person with talent that deserves to be loved. For me, I have become less dependent on others to fill that cup--which is liberating. Now, I just want to lose the weight so that I can say that I did it, because I knew that I could and I was ready

Weighing Once a Day Or Once A week.
I pretty much weigh myself every day, but I do not let it influence how I feel about the day (i.e. giving up). I would like to get to a point where it is only once a week but it is really such a habit now.
Regarding cheating--I believe that, if you can occasionally cheat on special occasions without completely falling off the wagon, and if you can accept the setbacks that come with it, then enjoy those special occasions. I was not able to do the above until I reached my 30s because cheating always meant bingeing.
Now, I am much better at getting right back on the horse, and even choosing wisely while I am cheating. For example, last night I went out with a group of girlfriends and a had a few drinks (over several hours). I tried to choose drinks that were not TOO sugary, but I did have a mojito. But for dinner, I chose a cheeseburger without the bun and a salad instead of fries. I just added up all my drinks and it put me at 67 net carbs for yesterday. So, I cheated--and I will probably do so once a month or so--life is too short not to occasionally have a little fun. But this morning, I am right back on plan and will be so until the next special occasion.
So, evaluate yourself and decide what your objectives are. I know last night could set me back a few days because I have knocked myself out of ketosis. I can take it--I had fun and that was really good for me. But I did it knowing that I would be able to get back on track.
Good luck!

Net Carbs
Is there an easy way to calculate "net carbs" using fatsecret?
Thanks!
