I’ve struggled with my relationship with food since I was a child. As an adult I’ve always felt like I was much younger than my age and have always weighed an average of 115 lbs with a low of 103 lbs. With menopause at approx age 52, I started feeling much older. I tried BHRT 1.5 yrs ago and gained 12 lbs in 3 months. It took me a full year to lose those 12 lbs. I’ve tried losing more weight and struggled to drop below 125. I’ve decided to try semiglutide and use it as a tool to change my eating habits. I have a crazy sweet tooth and love salt. I have a tendency to want a large volume of food and eat fast. I also drink very little water. I have always skipped breakfast and lunch so I could eat more at night. I have tried every diet out there including Atkins, Ketogenic, Intermittent Fasting, Calorie Counting, and Mediterranean. The only one I ever lost weight on was Atkins and I stayed on it for a year, but got tired of not being able to have all kinds of fruit.

Since starting semiglutide 5/23/24, I have been forced to drink 64 oz or more a day, eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day, cut out all sugar, limit my fat, eat more protein, and watch my sodium.
It’s only been 2 days since my first injection, but I am eating less, not feeling hungry, not nauseous and seeing a drop on the scale. I’m hopeful that even if I stop getting injections once I reach my goal weight, I will have some tools to help me keep it off.
Hopefully I can help others by sharing what my journey on semiglutide looks like and what my progress or lack thereof looks like. Hopeful it will be a success but only time will tell.

Constipation
I made a post and received a lot of comments but I can’t see my original post or reply to any comments, maybe I needed to make the post here instead of on my journal?

I’ll try again here and hopefully all of you that replied can reply here. Do you suffer from constipation? If you had it but don’t now, what fixed it? I’ve tried drinking 80+ ounces of water a day, I have the squatty potty, I’ve tried high dose magnesium, senna, and many others as well as foods.

You can’t lose weight and feel satisfied

You need all three proteins, fat and carbohydrate.

Careful with those absolutes.

I've lost 56 pounds since last year, all while eating more each day than I ever used to, and I never feel hungry.

No hunger. Controlled steady weight loss. I cut way back on carbs (typically 20-30g/day), greatly increased fat, slightly increased protein (95g/day), started taking a multivitamin, and started taking a combo omega-3/6/9 supplement.

You do not need to eat carbs, period. There is no medical condition associated with insufficient dietary carbs.

Do your own research, don't take my word or corifeo's -- this is the Internet, after all. Everybody's an expert. Rolling Eyes

I agree,
I have lost weight both ways, eating high carbs but counting calories & eating low carb higher calories. For me, especially when traveling, I find it easier to count calories because when i'm not at home preparing my own meals, I find the outside world is full of carbs. I also find that I gain my weight back very quickly if I eat too many carbs one day & I don't like the fluctuation in weight that low carb gives me. I do like that eat forces you to eat mostly whole foods though so I try to to eat similar on calorie count (whole foods but I add fruit or if I want sugar, I just count the calories & I don't have to worry about the weight gain like I do with low carb.

GOING CRAZY!!!
Hi Gnat824, I do log my food in daily, but I am going to pay better attention to which foods fill me up more & which don't. I have been eating a whopping 110-140 grams of protein a day so you would think I wouldn't be hungry! That's where I argue the point with the experts that say protein & fat give you more satiety to keep you fuller longer. I do like having celery & PB2 and find that is a very good snack. Oatmeal doesn't fill me up at all, neither do an ounce of nuts. Can you explain what you mean by deficits? At first I thought you meant how many calories under your daily goal you went but that can't be possible since you mentioned a 1000 calorie deficit. When I count calories I try to stay as close to 1200 as possible since all the calorie calculators I have found support that number is what I need to lose weight (slowly). If I am doing low carb I eat about 1600. I'll share my food journal so you can see ;o)

And this is why I don't do lots of cardio, it just depletes glucose and drives you to eat carbs Smile

I haven't been running for over a month so I know that is not the case. Cardio in moderation is good for heart health (not necessarily running) but any exercise that gets your heart rate going.

GOING CRAZY!!!
It is simply maddening to me that I can have such knowledge in food & nutrition but I can't figure out what foods to eat to lose weight & feel satisfied! When I go low carb, I dream about sugar cookies, sourdough bread, pizza, & doughnuts. I eat 1600 calories of high protein & fat & I am still craving something else (carbs). If I calorie count & stick to 1200-1300 calories, I tend to choose high carb but healthy foods (like fruit), medium protein & low fat but i'm so hungry at the end of the day. I can't seem to strike a happy balance on any plan that I can sustain for a long period of time. I know eating whole foods, no matter which plan I choose is very healthy but I would like to lose weight too. I was running regularly but now that I injured my knee, I can't do much exercise so I have to rely on getting the food right & I feel like I need an expert in science & nutrition to figure this out! Just freakin frustrated!!!
