@philrmcknight's Journal, 15 July 2023

So, 285 is a reflection of the last six months of strict Carnivore. I gained during Covid, and after the initial shock-phase, I quit GAF and just really cut loose. Not proud, but human and back on track, having to remember this is a journey, not a destination. Have a nice day.
285.0 lb Lost so far: 165.0 lb.    Still to go: 5.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 0.8 lb a week

I'm gonna post again for you Phil, covid set everyone on their ears. It put my Mom into a downward spiral and dementia set in, and then she died. We are still here, we are all back, at different levels of regain, but back all the same. We have all struggled with our weight almost all of our lives, and most all of us have tried ALL the conventional medically approved plans and they did not work for us. This does, yes it's hard to maintain especially when we go off the rails completely...as you say GAF goes out the window. No shame, no blame, no games! We are here trudging beside you.

Thank you for being brave enough to post this. I looked back through some of your journals, saw you were doing OMAD as Keto. Are you going back to Carnivore? I'm on the polar opposite diet (Vegan/Whole Foods/Plant Based), but it works for me and I've maintained a healthy weight easily for over a year on it. So no judgement, but it is surprising to me that you'd want to exclude mushrooms and other yummies that were part of your successful diet before. So what's the plan this time?

Thanks, Deb, much love to you and yours. 💗 @Bananas, it really shouldn't take bravery to post this kind of shit, we're all human and we all eff up from time to time, the ONLY reason to be nervous about it is if some judgemental A-Hole got jokes, in which case they can GF themselves. 👍 The good news is, I'm down a lot since I started back Keto/Carnivore back in December. 110 pounds, if you really got to know. The 70 pound gain is a reflection of having lost 110 pounds already, so yeah, I got this. I'll stick to what I'm doing and should be below 215 by my one-year-on-plan date!

Sounds like a solid plan Phil, you doing any fasting other than the Warriors diet?
15 Jul 23 by member: debrafrederick
I fast every other day, sometimes I'll kick it up to a two-day fast, but always at least 23:1. It's been a different journey so far this time. Before it was like kill it to get to goal, but now it's like screw it, I'll get there when I get there.

Right? Leaving my veggies in I know will slow me down, in the long term. Right now I'm doing the weekly 3 day fasts and this current 7 day fast more for the healing that I am definitely feeling going on right now. I'm not aching all over any more and the pain in my hip is diminishing. Inflammation is down, bp is down, my glucose is perfect, even right now. I'm at 99, it has not shifted up or down in weeks, it just cruises along. My A1C in February was 5.5 Doc said that's not even prediabetes. I asked for a check because I just really felt like shit at the time. I'm much better now!!!

@Deb Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Anthony Chaffee have convinced me to give up vegetables. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1cqNDDG4aA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYRUCx7Bj08 And as much as I think Jordan Peterson & Joe Rogan are colossal D-Bags, they get nutrition right.

It's not really a nutrition thing for me Phil, I get bored with just meat. I like to cook and surround my protein with low carb blobs of color and texture. I do better and can sustain it better if I let my artist eye make the plate pleasing to the eye, delicious to the tastebuds and filling to the stomach. The lunch I fixed today with chicken livers, were cooked in butter with green onions and vidalia onions. The side salad of cucumber and tomatoes on a small bed of spring mix greens topped with sour cream. We had green and white with the livers, green, red, white, purple with the salad. It was pretty and so tasty. Very filling and made my fat girl eyes happy. It's probably all I will eat as I am full and satisfied and I'm at 1460 calories for the day, who knew I could feel so full and still be below my RDI. When we went at this back in 2015, I knew that I could not keep it up, but the results I was getting made me NGAF. So I continued, I had no health issues because of it, no I felt fantastic and my Doc was amazed. I don't use that Doc anymore because he fired me LOL, anyway. When I got to goal, I loosened up a bit for a year or two it had no real impact on my weight, I would go up 5, drop five....NBD It was when I decided I could add bread back in that really broke the bank and drove me off the rails. I won't be doing that again for certain. But I have to leave room in my life for pretty plates of colorful foods :)

I was eating half a dozen croissants before lunch with my morning coffee there for a few months. Kinda like Bilbo Baggins and The Ring, "Why shouldn't I eat it?" haha Ima dork. Love those things, tho. I'm a total food slob if I quit caring.

I'm right thee with you Phil, we had cookies, cracker, chips, pastry, french bread, sourdough bread, bagels all in the pantry, we grazed though the evening hours, then before bed......Blue Bell Icecream.....and no one cup portions. Hubby and I can plow through 1/2 gallon in two sittings, crazy stuff thee!!

Oh, yeah, no doubt. My wife's favorite food group is sugar. The most awesome grocery store in Texas, H-E-B carries a store brand ice cream that's got a Mexican Hot Chocolate flavor, just to die for and the only serving size anyone in my house knows is "until I can't eat any more". lol

I could do carnivore if I lived in TX. The best thing I ever ate was the BBQ turkey at Rudy's (before they started encrusting it with pepper WTH).

I'm not crazy about black pepper crusts, either. If a bbq place uses rubs of any kind I usually skip it because most of them add some kind of sugar.

What do they do in Texas for Vegans? Do BBQ joints grill skewers of veggies as sides, like layers of onion, peppers, radishes, etc? Or big portabella mushrooms? Corn on the cob?

They'll accommodate whatever you ask them for 9/10 @Bananas
