My friend wanted to treat me to lunch today for helping her with some stuff. She wanted Pei Wei and I figured there had to be something healthy on the menu... and they had salads! I was really glad. I ordered an Asian Chili Lime Chicken Salad. I began to eat it and thought, "I should really look up the calories in this." 920 calories!! In a pretty small salad that looks really healthy. I was mortified. By then, I had ate half. So I stopped. I am still on track with my calorie intake today, but I will not be visiting Pei Wei again! There is nothing low-cal about that place. A quarter pounder hamburger from McDonald's is LESS THAN HALF THE CALORIES OF A SALAD!! Unbelievable!

Always ask for dressing on the sideโ€” Iโ€™m guessing that is where most of the calories were

Calories can hide really well, just sneaky like that. Kenna is right, order dressing on the side. When I do I dip my fork in it before putting salad on it. You also get even flavor with each bite.

Yeah, apparently 220 calories from the dressing... still leaves 700 calories in the salad! So nuts!! Lol ๐Ÿ˜† Oh, well... I survived and learned a lesson. Ask for dressing on the side, and if I'm wondering- check for calories before ordering!

Pei Wei is not a healthy place to eat. I used to love going there on date night ( yes I'm a cheap date). When I started tracking what I eat I was appalled at the amount of fat and/or sugar in their dishes. Don't even get me started on the sodium, over 3000 mg in some of the choices. It's just not worth it to me. Good job for checking and having the strength to stop after finding out what you were eating!

Eating out is a serious challenge - calories and carbs are off the charts. My wife and I really struggle at times with this. We try to find items with out sauce or breaded items, then we still usually split the meals. Some places have the nutrition information on line or available at the restaurant if you ask.

I ran in to the same thing at Chili's one day. That salad had 1400 calories! It's insane! I'd much rather eat at home anymore.

I got a gift card to Panera over the holidays. Thought I would get a salad....Whoa, baby. I think an unsweetened ice tea will use up the card.
