I'm recording my weight a day early. I normally do this Saturday mornings, but I'm leaving for a week up north with my family (my mom is turning 93 years old this weekend!). When I return, my husband and I are then going camping for a week.

So... I expect there will be a slight weight gain by the time I get back.

Along with a nice roast beef and beer-can-chicken, I am also making homemade cherry pie from fresh cherries for the birthday party - and I WILL have a piece for sure! My sister is doing her famous new potatoes done in cream, butter and fresh dill - which I will also have. And then of course, there's the "camping food" the next week.

I thought about preparing all my meals in advance to stay on my program, but after much deliberating, I decided to partake in the delicious food that I will be working so hard to prepare. I've decided that participating in these kinds of activities (including the food) is part of a well balance life. And this journey I am on is not a short term thing... it's about having a good life, for the rest of my life.

So what do I do to mitigate the potential weight gain? Well, 3 things really:

1) I will do my best to make smart food choices over the next two weeks, get in plenty of outdoor exercise, and not go overboard while partaking in the treats.

2) I will face the music. In other words, I will get on the scale my first morning back and assess the "damage" done. (I put that word in quotations intentionally because having a healthy and positive relationship with food is one of my primary goals. To me, that means being able to enjoy treats on occasion.)

3) I will get right back on track - which will likely include some serious restriction and extra exercise - until the scale reads what it did pre-vacation.

Wish me luck my FS friends! I may be MIA for the next two weeks as cell service where I'm going is sketchy at best. All the best to you and please ENJOY the rest of your summer!
