It seems Santa gave me an extra unexpected gift for Christmas - the ability to run!

I'm bewildered really, I don't know whats changed, but it seems that almost overnight I am able to jog/run.

Since I started dieting/exercising I had only ever been able to run for 6 minutes max (on a very good day). I just couldn't seem to get any further than that. I've always known it was a psychological issue. I was too focused on how long I'd been running for.

Well, on Wednesday I managed to run 1.25 miles (with a 30 second break about half way through) and today I did something I never thought I'd be able to do. I ran 2.85 miles! And without stopping at all! The program was a 5k (3.1 miles) program but I used the first 0.25 miles as a warm up. For the first time ever I have a 5k time to record - 42:50. A slow pace but I did it none the less. Will work on improving speed over the next couple of weeks.

I'm thrilled. Next goal is to run the entire 5k (3.1 miles). My partner and I plan to run a 5k for charity in May. After the last couple of times on the treadmill I feel confident I will complete it.

P.S - on another note, at my weigh in this morning my weight was still exactly the same. Dissappointing as I've hardly seen any movement for about 2 weeks, but quite pleasing as it seems I didn't do much damage over Christmas. Fingers crossed for a loss tomorrow after my run today.

This is SO exciting! I remember when I discovered that I could run, I was shocked. I'm happy to hear this! :) Happy New Year!

I remember reading one of your journals not long ago where you said you had managed to run for over an hour after previously thinking you wouldn't be able to run. It was that post that spurred me on. Thanks Keld!

ABSOLUTELY my pleasure. Mind you, I haven't managed (or really tried) to do it since. Next week, I'm back to my usual schedule, and I'll be working harder on that. I know the sprints burn more calories, but I really like the though of being able to do a full hour at a good pace. My exercise machines stop at one hour, I wonder if I should just reset and then keep going? I could, of course, take it outside, but most winter days in Denmark are humid, cold, grey and dull, and there is a real danger in black ice.
