I went swimming again today. Have been going with my mum on Tuesdays for the last 3 weeks. Prior to then I hadn't swum for over 5 years, mostly because I hated my fat body and was too embarrased to show it.

Well, no more, I still dislike my body, but it's not going to change by itself. I've got to make it change. Plus in all fairness, I'm one of the skinniest swimmers at our local pool, so I've no reason to be any more embarrased than anyone else there.

Anyway, I'm rambling. What I wanted to say was every time we've been I've managed to increase the distance I've swam. On the wall of the pool is a big board that says..."If you swim 50 lengths of our pool (33.3m pool) you have swum a mile" and "If you swim 65 lengths of our pool (25m pool) you have swum a mile". There are 2 different lengths because sometimes part of the pool is cordoned off for educational swims. Well I saw this as a challenge. I really didn't know how far I'd be able to swim that first week, so I just started swimming and counted my lengths. The first week I managed to swim 27 lengths (big pool), which meant I had swum over half a mile. I was thrilled.

However, the week after I was determined to swim further. Last week I managed to swim 40 lengths (smaller pool), which was just over 100m further than the week before.

This week, I had to go even further. I managed 56 lengths (smaller pool again). Next week is the big one, I will swim the full mile. It's only 9 more lenghts of the smaller pool.

If you'd have said 2 months ago I would be close to swimming a mile I'd have thought you were crazy, but it doesn't seem that difficult at all. It's actually a lot of fun, really enjoyable and a great way to spend time with my mum.

Sorry for the mammoth journal entry, I seem to hardly post but when I do it's always a looooong entry.
