Miraculum's Journal, 06 August 2018

We're on a 10-day vacation -- drove from SC to PA last Tuesday to visit my stepson and his family for dinner and 4 granddaughters' birthday celebration. (They're 1, 3, 5, and almost 7 years old. PARTY!)

Overnightmare: had to change rooms at 2:30 a.m. Wed. -- toilet and thermostat both kaput!

On to Saratoga, NY, visiting nephew & family Wed.; Thurs. lunch & afternoon races at the track, then dinner for 10 at the Saratoga Nat'l Golf Club for s-i-l's 50th wedding anniversary; brunch Fri. at niece's. Great time! Great food!

We arrived at b-i-l's in Oswego (on Lake Ontario, north of Syracuse) Fri. afternoon for R&R till tomorrow afternoon. (My husband will be playing golf with his oldest buddies while I sit with feet raised above my heart most of Sunday and today.) Tue. pit stop in Fairport, NY, to see another nephew & family, then arriving in Buffalo tomorrow evening.

Overnight till early Thursday at my best friend's house: dinner with her & her husband and lunch with my uncle, cousin, and cousin's family. Back on the road, Buffalo to SC (11-12 hrs.) in time to spring my cockapoo from boarding before 7:30 p.m.!

All this driving and sitting and eating, my calves and feet show heavy fluid retention (pitting edema!) and I feel FAT!FAT!FAT! No eating only dinner, and drinking LOTS of water.

I start PT for my poor balance (neuropathy), leg weakness (4-mo. post-op immobilization), and overall deconditioning this Friday. Can't wait to get back to my routine! God only knows what the scale will say. It won't be pretty...

I brought along the food I'd planned for the road and did fairly well with that. I'm back to a just-water-and-dinner plan as of Saturday a.m. I'm eating what everyone else has for dinner (and dessert*s*), not being willing to give up favorites that I can't get at home in SC. Looking forward to a return to sanity on Thursday!

I appreciate the swelling and leg problems! Long auto, or even airplane trips are hard on those prone to edema. And it takes a little while to recover from it. So glad you are seeing friends and loved ones! Even though all that water retention makes you feel fat, I bet everyone said Wow! when they saw how much weight you've lost.

I really missed your post while you were away. Welcome back. You will probably be surprised. I hope the scale is good to you. Good luck.
