You are inspiring me! I have failed at OMAD in the past but I am willing to give it another try when I hit my goal weight. My hope is that after so much extended fasting I wont go on a 'carb binge' (THIS was my problem) when I do eat now.

I like fasting too! Which is weird to some but it’s not armful like ppl think. Especially not for us, since we have trained our bodies to burn fat through Ketosis. I don’t know if I could do it with carbs in the equation but that’s what I’d like to do after I get to my goal weight. We’ll see

Abef I’m really hoping your wife being Keto will help give you, not only support but discipline to stay low on the carbs too. Sometimes accountability can be a good motivator

@abef I agree with @crashtest, with your wife eating Keto, that is going to make things so much easier for you! If it weren’t for my 6’5” naturally thin hubby supporting this way of eating, it would be 100x harder for me. (Although I do still have to have some willpower because the late night cereal is not going away for him LOL)

Hey also, have you guys noticed better brain function with fasting? I’ve been joking for the last couple of years that I have early onset dementia because my memory has just taken a nose dive, but several times in the last few days I have surprised myself with quickly remembering something. For example listening to old music in the car with my hubby tonight and band names, even lead singer names were just popping in my head. I was a bit shocked! Maybe coincidence, we’ll see!

I definitely notice a big difference in my ability to stay focused with Keto but I don’t know about fasting. My memory has also improved. We keep changing the layout of my store and I’m the only one that knows where everything is at lol I’ve been fasting nearly everyday. Not always 20+ hours tho

@crashtest maybe it is the Keto, but whatever it is, I’m crazy happy with it!

Yes indeedy.... clarity of mind is one of the coolest parts of fasting! It's why its so widespread in religious rituals. When you take your mind off food - and more specifically, your body in general - you free your mind to focus more intently on other things you're normally distracted from.

Water and sleep are your best friends while fasting. Lots of folks try to stay active and distracted, but that expended more energy than I'd care for when I did it. I'd just spend a lot of time sleeping to completely remove all temptation. From time to time, I'd get a slight headache or feel a little buzzed (kinda like "keto fog"), but that was just imbalanced electrolytes which is remedied by salt water with lemon juice. Great job, dude! I'm not trying to lose weight anymore, so I can't fast, but I do miss it sometimes.

@chris that’s the mind blowing part about this fasting thing for me, is I don’t get the slightest bit hungry or even tempted until the 20 hour mark, which is usually falling around 1:30 - 2:00pm, and that’s easy for me to make it to dinner time 5:30 -6:00pm. My longest fast so far was only 27 hours, so I’m sure pushing for multiple days, sleep would definitely help. And I feel so good! Like if it were a drug, I’d take it kind of good! Thanks for all of your advice and insight, I really appreciate it!

My performance at work is wayyy better since I started fasting. I lead a group of software developers, and I have to keep the details of a large number of systems in my head and make quick decisions. My primary concern is my mood and temper. Not having the morning, afternoon, snack time, blood sugar spike and fall helps keep me mostly 'even' during times of stress.

@CrashtestDawnie - Yes, it is ALL about the carbs for me. I only fast because it keeps my carbs low. I really don't believe the 'calorie deficit' contributes to my weight loss at all. I looked at my chart for this entire year, only carbs make a difference. However, I would have a hard time getting my carbs <5 a day without fasting :) My wife @PrincesValerie is now eliminating the carbs from my diet even when I DO eat so this weekend has had accelerated weight loss :) Basically, yes to everything you said.
