Expected this lower loss this week with the poor food choices over the weekend. Still on track to meet my end of summer goals though!

This next week is going to be a big challenge. Travelling all week to a conference. Every lunch and dinner is scheduled with a different supplier at a different, super fancy and super expensive restaurant. Pretty much a week of being schmoozed by sales people.

On the plus side, I know where we are going for these meals, so I can look at the menu ahead of time and make smart choices. So, when going to this incredible steak house, rather than ordering this insane looking prime rib, lobster mac and cheese, and homemade tiramisu, I can get the dry aged filet, steamed asparagus, and shaved ice.

What I'm beginning to find is that it is more interesting to try the healthy options at these upscale restaurants. It's pretty easy to make things delicious when they aren't healthy (aka drown it it butter and smother it in cheese and bacon) but it takes much more skill to make a truly delicious, lower calorie option. My goal is to remember that and have self restraint. Besides, I never remember what I eat on these trips, but when I'm there, I feel like I'll be missing out if I don't indulge. Which is dumb.

Good work. At most of the better restaurants you may also ask that they leave off certain things when they cook. For example, I ask that no butter be used in fresh cooked veggies and if I eat a steak, for example, ask that no butter or other sauce be used to cook the steak. I usually order a club soda with lime so it looks like I'm drinking alcohol so everyone feels comfortable at the table. For dessert, I usually order an Expresso or non-fat milk latte. And these places usually bring out a high-carb nutritionally devoid mound of bleached white flour suspended in vegetable shortening (bread). I just put a piece on my bread plate, pull it apart as folks are beginning to eat the bread and just don't touch eat it. So, in most nicer restaurants, I can order a couple of healthy veggie options and a lean steak just grilled...a nice, healthy dinner with almost no carbs.

NOT DIET CANCER: Shopping (especially for smaller clothes, new bikes, and, of course, kale); Bikiing Across Iowa; lifting heavy shit; the always trusty garbage disposal, and possibly, that weird ice cream substitute... just sayin' ... I could go on...

Hey now, don't judge the weird ice cream substitute until you've had it.

Stay focused and enjoy your time with others rather than making food the center of your attention. Maybe you won't miss the fatty dishes as much. :)

That's a good point about testing out the chef's skill with the healthy menu options. I've been doing a similar thing by trying to always order the fish or seafood option - and I'm learning a lot about interesting ways to make the creatures of the sea. I figure anyone can make a steak taste delicious as long as they don't burn it. But a delicate little piece of white fish takes some thinking about and creativity.

Ms. Notelaine you should make sure you are not digging you own grave with and fork and a knife! ~English proverb. So what do you sell? With your pretty face I am sure you are being wizzed off to some damn good food. Stop eating when you are hungry and eat slow. Stop every ten minutes and wait five. Decide if you are eating for taste or for hunger... We all eat for taste that is why we are FAT. Keep the Faith.

Haha, thanks Edardj! I'm more of an indirect buyer, not a seller (which is good, because I'd be a terrible at sales!) I formulate cosmetic, FDA, and medical device products and they try to get me to include their latest and greatest chemicals. I'm looking for new preservative systems this trip, which are some high-dollar components, hence all of the schmoozing.
