Winter solistice!! I look forward to this day because it means that every day following gets a little longer!! More light!! It is raining here still. Not much like winter. Although the ground froze when the temperatures dropped here and around our front door is a virtual ice-skating rink!!

I should expect this by now as it happens almost every weekend but still I always feel slightly disappointed. I did over an hour on my elliptical yesterday, spent most of the day cleaning house, kept my calories very reasonable and went up 6 tenths of a pound!! I am still beneath the blue line, barely. It seems everytime I exercise more the scale goes up. I get excited that I might see 175 and then ... the falling scale disappears. Truly, I know I am doing what I need to do and there really is nothing to feel disappointed about ... just need to refocus my brain and remember that my goal for the holidays was to be no more than 185 on the 1st of the new year.

My five for today ...

1. looking forward to Christmas celebrations with my family
2. a clean house!!!
3. my husband's arms around my waist and him telling me I'm "skinny"
4. the smell of freshly baked datenut bread in the house
5. the ability to change my thinking

Have a wonderful day today.

Winter solstice! Yippee! I also look forward to this day. Don't worry too much about the weight thing, it will all balance out. I've decided, as you know, to really start to focus again AFTER New Year's. In the meantime, all I am doing is trying to exercise every day. But, I am NOT counting my calories until January 5th, which coincides with The Biggest Loser premiere. That show always motivates me. I like your #3 and #4. How those two things can make us feel so wonderful!!!! Merry Christmas!

A very wise buddy said very recently "whatever happens with the scales happens. Any gains we may have does not mean we have failed ... the journey continues for the rest of our lives!!" So no fretting over the .6 lbs! I also happen to know, the air is heavier on Mondays and pushes down on the scale (about .6 lbs as a matter of fact!). Happy Winter Solstice! Is there a special dance for that?

LOL Amy!!! Who the heck said that anyway?? Thanks for the reminder. I'm okay with it really, I just get too darned obsessed sometimes!! I think we could invent a special dance for the Winter Solstice ... it would be especially attractive in snow boots and all the associated gear don't you think? Let's work on it!!

Your scale is going up after exercise because your making MUSCLE, and muscle weights more than fat. Have a great Monday girl!!

I love it too that the days are getting longer. Hate leaving and coming home to darkness. Don't get too upset over that little gain. I went up about the same amount. We will just keep on with what we are doing knowing we are doing well. Your 5 as always are awesome. Have a nice day!

You could be building up muscle at this point, either way you win. The next time *I* get down I am going to reset my goal to a point which I may only reach occasionally but which, for psychological reasons, should exert downwards pressure on my overall weight and help me stay within a certain range. Keep up the good work moose!

I agree with everybody, after a good workout yor body retains some water as your muscles grow, and that explains the little (really, we're talking about a few grams) gain. happy winter solstice!

I know how easy it is to get focused on a number and feel disappointed to keep seeing that same number over and over. I know you KNOW it's all about the big picture but it's hard to SEE the big picture. I've been blah blahing about my weight not moving down fast enough but the other day I flashed on it and I suddenly realized that I haven't been this weight in a long time. So take a step back and try to see that # from far away--you have made some HUGE progress and these little ups and downs when viewed from far away are all moving DOWN. Thanks again for your inspiring five.

Ready for a tip? The secret for me was mixing it up with the exercise. The more variety in my workouts -- the better the weight stayed off or went down. Cross training! That has been the Fat Secret for me.
