Good Morning! YAY! Fast Complete! I can see and feel the water, bloat and swelling slowly coming off me! That's all this is at the moment, but it does make me feel better!!The fast was both easier and harder than I anticipated. Easier because I had no electrolyte problems and because of my reduced sense of smell riding through town with the smell of food that comes from fast food outlets did not give me the urge to pull a hard right into a drive through. Silver linings in everything! I did struggle with longer and harder waves of hunger, a cup of bone broth and finding something else to focus on helped me to allow them to pass. The hunger is the remnants of the binge. I have faith that by my next scheduled fast, they will be mostly gone. I am pleased to have successfully made 84 hours! Break Fast with some AG1 and then food! WoooooHoooo!!!!

Woo hoo 🎉 so proud of you and congrats on the fast and the weight loss you are getting right back to where you were . You have been so inspiring to me and other ppl also have inspired me to do the best I can.. I want to try to fast longer than 16-18 hr but it seems like I am hungry after 18hrs .. how long does it take to get to the point where ones body quits being a pain in the butt and hunger pains start diminishing so I can fast about 2-3days at a time?

you have to fight through the hunger at first Sara till your body becomes fast-adapted and fat adapted we are riding right now I will explain more when I get back to my keyboard

When you go keto and keep your carbs below 50 grams for Keto Light, or under 20 grams for Strict keto, after a few days or weeks for Keto light, your body flips a switch and begins to burn fat for fuel we call that fat adapted, which mean that your body is burning primarily fat. When you are well fat adapted you have reduced hunger because your body is using it's own stores of fat and is not demanding food to fuel your body. If you have a lot of fat to burn it has virtually unlimited fuel available. So then fasting....fasting works best when you are already fat-adapted. When you move from sugar and high carb intake to fasting, your body is going to be sending hunger signals with red flags, if you go into fasting eating Low carb or low carb-high fat, fasting just increases the fat burning you are already doing. I am fat adapted enough that apparently I can binge for a month on carbs, then quit them for a week and then go back to fasting.....the hunger was definitely a bit more intense but it was not what I recall dealing with back in June when I started back after a couple of years of sugar burning. I guess my body can now easily switch back and forth from fat burning to sugar burning because I am in ketosis at the moment. I have not yet done a full meal today. Dealing with weekend chores I have not stopped to cook yet....and well, refrigerator issues, I had to toss a lot of my food due to spoilage 😪 we just got back from taking it to the trash collection. We don't have garbage pickup here, we have groups of dumpsters near each community that we transport the trash to and the county empties them once a week...so that was chore #1. I thought I would have to go another week and through another fast to start producing keytons but I have a few, showing 2.1 😁

Like you, I have also found that distraction is my most effective way to deal with hunger. It helps to have plenty of physical activities and hobbies to choose from. Anything that takes you away from the kitchen. Excellent weight loss.

Thanks Penderg! And Tisha, Erika! Appreciate the support. I stir fried some cabbage and pork loin and had a small meal LOL it tastes kinda like a Pork eggroll without the wrapper. We are calling that lunch, will probably go out and locate some food this evening...the entire house is in a shambles ATM and I don't want o mess with it anymore today....my only day off needs some R&R at some point.

To explain the fast-adapted part. Sara, you are doing daily 18 hour fasts, part of which you are asleep. Your body is busy making repairs and rejuvenating you at night while you are still and relaxed so usually there is no hunger...unless you are not sleeping. Most folks who get up and eat in the middle of the night are having a serious sleep disturbance....you see that mainly in folks who do shift work. So most folks don't have hunger triggering at night so we can sleep for 6-10 hours without having hunger pains. We have been trained by the powers that be that breakfast in the mornings is the most important meal of the day...that was important back when we grew our own food and went out into the fields at daylight with a hoe. Hard backbreaking work farming with a hoe and yes, you need fuel to accomplish that. For us modern folks who go from the bed to the shower to the car and to a chair at work....not so much. So you are skipping breakfast now, but your stomach will growl at you at 7 am because it has learned that this is eating time, that is only a habit, not true hunger, it goes away in a few minutes....for me, a cup of coffee shuts it right up. Next you skip lunch, hunger makes it's self known to you between 11 and 1. This might be a habit too....it you have a lot of body fat, it probably is because your body can use it's own stored energy and you don't NEED to eat. Dinner...you do 18-6 so dinner time comes and you have a meal...fast ended. Your next step to learn to fast is to do a full 24 hour fast. Starting after your last meal, it's best to have that meal a little earlier in the day so that your 24 hours will not complete at an hour too close to bedtime, or you can make it a little longer fast by simply going to sleep and breaking your fast the next day. So If I stop eating at 5 pm today and I don't eat again until 5 pm tomorrow.....I just did 24 hours. You do that 2 or 3 times a week for a few weeks and it becomes no big deal, because you are eating at a calorie deficit...if you are breaking your fasts with healthy whole food, fat and protein and limited carbs. Your body will take the energy it needs from your stored fat. I simply took those 2 or 3 times a week and do them back to back and by the end of the 2nd day the hunger usually vanishes and I start feeling really good. When you can do a 24 hour fast and it is no big deal, then you increase the 24 hours to 36, when that gets easier, increase it to 48 rinse and repeat till you reach the fasting zone you are aiming for.

Then you are FAST-Adapted!

@Deb, great drop!! 👍👏👏👏🥳 @Sara, the med you take for weight loss increases insulin release whether or not you eat, so fasting longer could be dangerous for you. Your body is protecting you from hypoglycemia.

Lady D! Thanks for the reminder, I forget she takes Ozempic. And thanks for the support! I think we are going to go to our mexican restaurant for dinner, they have a few speciality dishes that are lower carb if I have them hold off on the onions and replace the beans and rice with guacamole salad so Its a great place to go when dieting....I just have to keep my hands out of the chips and salsa. Which I know I can do :)

I keep forgetting about bone broth! I used to have it a couple times a week. Thanks for reminding me!👍👍

It's good stuff Diana, I think I'm gonna have mine more often during the week too, it's good for your skin and bones! I freeze mine into ice cubes then toss them into a gallon sized freezer bag, makes it simple to grab a few cubes put them in a cup and nuke them till hot....I add a wee bit more salt and pepper to mine before drinking...it's so yummy.

Thank goodness the fridge was the only thing that really got warm and spoiled food, the freezer was at 10 degrees so we got everything moved before a thaw occured. The stupid thing was froze up, needed a defrosting. I think one of us might not have closed the door good and allowed warm air to get in there and frost everything up. It's back to working fine now. We need to pay more attention to it!!!

Just did the math for my 7 day restart, I have lost 7.6 pounds in 7 days, it's all water you guys, getting the inflammation down, flushing the antibiotics, steroids, sugar and wheat out of my system, bringing my body back to balance and I can feel it. Gonna add my weight workout back in next week, bump my other exercise back up to pre-covid levels and I am going to eat to my hunger level on the next few eating days. During my OMAD restart, eating one meal...I was trying to force myself to eat more than what I wanted in order to meet my calorie goal...it's just not possible, so I am going to eat whole foods, healthy fats and healthy protein and not worry about trying to reach a calorie goal of 2200 calories per day. When I am full, I'm going to stop eating. If I am below 1,000 calories I am not going to stress about it.
