Hi. I'm Bill Pratt. My Draglist nickname comes from my drag racing website, draglist.com. I went from 345 to the 190s in two years from 2012-2014 using FS. I am experimenting with maintenance. Currently in the 215-220 range.
I weighed over 300 for more than 20 years of my adult life, topping out at 345 by January 2012 and experiencing Type 2 diabetes. I lost 15 pounds in six months that year by dropping breakfast (early 16:8 fasting without knowing it). Then I read a New York Times article about Dr. Carson Chow, an MIT mathematician who figured out an algorithm that gave you an absolute daily calorie goal to lose x amount of weight in x amount of time.
I plugged in 100 lbs. in a year on June 26, 2012. The calorie total per day was 1685. That's when I started with FatSecret to track those calories. I did not reach my goal on June 26, 2013, but I achieved it one week later, on July 4! I also have been in the perfect range for blood sugar since October 2012. On my anniversary, I changed my goal weight from 225 lbs. to 190 lbs.
I found it very difficult to hit 190 pounds as my original Calories In Calories Out (CICO) strategy became less effective after losing most of my weight. But I did make it to 196 pounds in June 2014, 192 pounds in April 2015, and 199 pounds in March 2017. I'm currently trying Low Carb and Intermittent Fasting within calorie targets to stay in my target weight range. I am finding it a completely different strategy to keep in maintenance, and I keep experimenting each month to see how to keep the weight off. I'm sticking with FatSecret to stay on track and maybe help a few new members find success. Feel free to follow me and drop me a message. I'm here to cheer you on.
Good luck in your journey, and if you are interested to know how I did it, check out my blog at diettruth.org or look up the "MIT Carson Chow" diet on FatSecret for tips and tricks. Wishing you success! Bill
