Very curious at what point will you claim success in your weight loss? Will it be when you hit your goal weight or after X amount of time maintaining your weight loss? I realized yesterday its its been over a year of me keeping the weight off. It takes a complete lifestyle change to not go back to your old ways and I have certainly made the necessary changes. Look at how many people come back here after gaining back everything they lost. There is one thing I have noticed with all of the people who maintain that blue line is they all have made exercise a huge part of their dialy lives and they do not follow super restrictive diets but practice CICO instead. Happy to say I'm no longer scale obsessed either its been a month since I've stepped on it.

Just to add to this I have lost significant weight more than once and gained nearly all of it back and that has always been my fear that I would let it happen again.
158.5 lb Lost so far: 41.6 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

for me its been a continious lifelong effort so I dont really claim "success". theres been lots of highs and lows. I do agree with you about exercise and lifestyle change. as far as weighing myself, I've done it so much i can tell you what I weigh within 2 pounds just by how I feel. it cycles thru the day/week. once in a while ill check just to confirm what I all ready know, lol.

Good reflections friend Otb, for personal issues I can not practice physical activities as I would like, but something I do, the main thing is the change of habits for healthier ones, and 15 months ago I left alcohol, and change my life, I am not restrictive in my diet, although I try to be as healthy, all homemade meals as much as possible, I am very happy for you and others who are also on the right track, greetings.

DLonggone completely agree on the lifelong part! I have been up and down the scale my whole life this is the first time I've ever made the real changes needed to make it sustainable.

Congratulations on a year! Yes, most do gain some or all of it back. It does seem that the majority of these individuals do fall under the reasons that you mentioned. However, for some, it was due to a bad injury, a change in job, a new baby, a loss of a loved one, financial hardship, etc. Life happens. You can get hit hard at times, and it will make it difficult or even impossible to stay on track. We are not God. We can not control our future. I think it is very important to understand this and to be somewhat prepared mentally.

TheUnhealthyDaddy very true and I'm dealing with some of that myself right now as well. I have had to scale back my normal exercise for the past 2 months because of the knee and damn it's hard eating less when you have become so accustomed to being able to eat a certain level of calories!!

I think for me it will be when I keep it off for many years. Last time I needed to lose real weight was when I was in college and finally hit a happy place at 27. I kept it off until I hit 51. So now I’m back at it. Trying to find what works for me at this age.

I love your way of thinking, I happen to agree with you 100%. I hope to be there one day as well, but hoping it’s not enough. I need to do the work. Congratulations to you God bless and keep up the great work.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️

Funny for me it was when my doctor wrote in his notes. She has successfully lost weight and held it. 😀

I agree with your assessment of losing weight. I do loosely follow CICO but also keep track of my macros. I do find that I feel healthier and "tighter" when I follow a clean diet but it can be too restrictive to follow long term. I've been successful for a couple years now and I credit exercise with a large portion of maintaining the weight loss. For me it's an evolving endeavor.

And on another note of course, life throws at us all kinds of circumstances and situations, and some of those we can control the outcome of, and some of us it’s way beyond our capabilities all one can do is just keep moving forward ,no matter what just keep moving forward ,as long as you are in that motion of moving forward you’re going to be OK ,this is just my two cents and a personal experience. Yes life is difficult but keep moving forward and you, Andrew was part of that lesson for me. You kept moving forward and because of that, you’re in the place you’re in today ,better than before. Congratulations..🎊🍾🎉🎈

Great discussion..why I go to Overeaters Anonymous...we don't just want to lose the weight...we want to STAY STOPPED...AND STAY THIN..WE CAN ALL LOSE WEIGHT..the real issue is can we keep it off?? I urge anyone who wants to stop and stay stopped to check out OA.org to see if its a good fit for you...in AA of which I am a 37 year member, we know what staying stopped means...same deain OA..but we have to engage the substance which is food. We in many instances suggest that people weigh and measure the food, not eat flour and sugar, think the first bite through to the misery of the binge..all the 12 steps promote a spiritual component...believers and non believers welcome...you have to ask yourself how well am I doing over time on my own ..most people on this site are addicts..not just folks who need to lose a couple of lbs..we are hardcore..and food addiction kills and it a soul killer too...and its s lifelong challenge...and its a disease...read up...check it out friends...you will find lifelong help in OA and life long friends too..

I don’t share much of my personal life on here, but I have faced many many hard hits since I’ve been on FatSecret and I kept going. Sickness, injuries, death, finances, job loss. All of it. It’s all about how determined you are and self disciplined. I am also blessed because I do not have any food addiction or eating disorder, history, crazy, weight loss, and gain history either. I understand many struggle with those things, and it must be like a demon that they fight, and it must be very hard. Not everyone faces obstacles the same way. I’m glad I’ve learned to face them with exercise and CICO.

I have a choice today...before OA it was throw up, take laxatives, throw it out, stave myself ..take speed ..etc..as the Big Book of AA states..these are the methods we have ..oh yeah..and then there is bariatric surgery...pretty catastrophic surgery...and guess what..many regain all the weight and more because they made no permanent behavioral changes..all the weight and more can be regained in 2 years plus you hair gets thin, and you are much more susceptible to alcoholism because you have reworked your gut..have a friend who had the surgery ...regained all the weight...started drinking and is now struggling to stay sober...teacher, masters degree..not some bum..his sister has the exact same scenario...this is a family disease friends..ok..end of diatribe...been around this site a long time and around OA and AA for 38 years...seen many tragic stories and many people die..
