I made it through the Daniel Fast! Don't worry, I allowed myself to feel disappointed and embarrassed about the meager weight loss yesterday. Today, I'm just ready to keep moving forward. I am still committed to dietary veganism, and I'm happy to add back in things that I forsook on the Daniel fast like juice, bread, and sugar (all in moderation).

I learned so much about my body while I was on the fast. First, it called to my attention all of the mindless eating I had been doing. My body was literally triggering me to eat when I didn't really need to eat. Second, I learned that I don't need coffee, and there a is a difference between natural energy and the nervous energy provided by caffeine. I learned that I am a slave to the scale. I learned that I don't need meat protein to balance my blood sugar. I learned that I was defficent in a few key nutrients that are needed for good digestion. Last, I learned that I could be an athletic vegan.

My body did change. I am currently sitting here with my blazer buttoned without strain around my middle. Friday, I was able to tighten my belt to the next notch. Last week, I noticed bagginess in my pants. I have not exprienced symptoms of my hypoglcyemia with the exception of one morning when I didn't eat properly the night before. My digestion is regular!

Yesterday, I enjoyed my cheat day. I went to my favorite bakery for brunch and had their french toast, grits with jalepeno cheese, and a cup of fruit with a decaffeinated coffee. I drank that big ol' coffee with just three packs of sugar! I tossed in maybe a tsp or two of cream.

So, my next weigh-in will be February 1, then not again until February 28.

Onward...
188.0 lb Lost so far: 14.0 lb.    Still to go: 13.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Hi, just wondering what exactly is this Daniel fast?

Here is a quick exerpt about the fast: The Daniel Fast is based on the fasting experiences of the Old Testament Prophet. It’s a partial fast where some foods are eaten while others are restricted. Most people use this method of fasting for 21 consecutive days. It's not meant as a diet, but weight loss is a common biproduct of the fast. With all of the changes that I was experiencing, I was expecting a larger loss.

All losses are good and it's not always just about the pounds. Other changes you've noticed are just confirmation that you're doing the right things that work for you. So great job!

It's a good loss, nothing to be disappointed about :-) Your clothes are fitting better, that's all that matters.
