During the course of a bad break up I lost 40 lbs. At 145lbs, I had never been closer to my high school weight of 138 in 5 years. I was happy, my belly was flat and love handles non-existant. I could even see sunshine through my thighs.

One happy relationship later, I had gained 25lbs back. That relationship ended badly too, and I looked foward to losing the happy pudge. But....it never came off.

More than four years later, I have gained 25 pounds and reached my highest weight of 196.4lbs. I am hypoglycemic and a carb and food addict. I have body image issues and the more weight I gain, the sexier and stronger I feel. When I lose weight, it takes days for my body to adjust from feeling weak and ugly to liking the new me.

So I am here to work on all of that and get to a healthy weight, work on strength training, control my blood glucose issues, and work on my body image issues.

Reactive Hypoglycemia?

Beans are the BEST!!!!!!! They are good carbs, high in fiber and protein and keep my sugar rocking along normally.

Yes, oh yes! This is only my second time going mostly vegetarian and I really love it because of the foods I cook. I do like meat, and I'm not trying to save the planet so I will have it on the weekend.

I have observed that different foods make you crave different things. Meat makes me crave soda, bread and pasta make me crave cookies and ice cream. Additionally, I was brought up to eat certain foods with certain things like spaghetti and garlic bread, pizza and soada, hot dogs and tater tots. My digestive system can't handle meat and simple carbs in the same meal like it can handle meat and veggies.

I thought going vegetarian would be a death sentence because of my hypoglycemia, so I eased my way into it. It only took a week really and I don't think I even needed to ease at all.

Reactive Hypoglycemia?
I suffered from being hypoglycemic for four or so years. Just recently I tried vegetarianism for a month - fasting. I don't eat a lot of bread because beans and rice are a better carb option. Beans, mushrooms, nuts, cheese have good protein and fiber (excluding the dairy). I haven't felt this good in years. Have you tried this?

Oh yes, it is a great place for support. Also, it is a great place to find information like recipes, and read people's personal experiences on different diets. You might read someone's journal and think, "oh, so that's what I'm doing wrong" or even "been there, done that let me reply to them and tell them how to get through it". I love this community.

Cheat Days
When I was on Nutrisystem, I refused to call off-plan meals/days "cheating". Because Nutrisystem is a way of eating that was very successful for me. Right now I am on a diet, plain and simple, and I have a cheat meal either on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

My diet is low calorie, low fat, low carbs and I eat between 1200-1500 calories per day. As long as I do not eat fast foods, I find that I maintain weight pretty well. But I have a difficult time losing weight while eating certain foods. This diet eliminates a lot of those foods from my diet and leaves me with plenty of fat burning nutrition. It sounds awesome, but it is a very strict diet with little variety. I know if I do not give myself some leeway one meal a week, then I could not maintain the discipline for any length of time.

Also, instead of splurging after hitting my goal, I can just transition easily into maintenance mode and it will be no big deal.

Really discouraged :(
I realized that group eating proves to be a challenge for me. Subconciously I don't want to get left out on something delicious. You know how you get a little bit to start, find out its good, then go back for a bigger serving and the dish is gone? I can't stand it.

Even yesterday after eating enough and identifying I was full, the post-funeral dinner made me want to compete for more food. I distracted this primal urge by serving everyone else what they wanted until the food was gone, and surprisingly so was the urge. Is this what makes you binge too?
