Had a mold remediation company come out yesterday. There is mold about the whole length of my house in the crawl space caused by warm/hot water dripping for probably a week or so. Very expensive to fix. Hopefully insurance will pay for some of it. And because my house is on a hill you can walk around the crawl space - most of it so it will be easier to take care of. But still very costly. At least I didn't start stress eating! Actually I had very little appetite.

Yikes. I'm very much afraid of finding mold in the house. How expen$ive was the quote? I didn't know it would be covered under home insurance. When I purchased my house, and gutted it I found mold behind the wood panels. It's what I got for wanting a fixer upper. Was naive about how bad it was. Hubs did the cleanup himself with a hazmat type suit.

Thanks Ettenauj! ACBelle - The mold removal MIGHT be covered under my HOA policy but doesn't seem likely. There was a water pipe under the house that was leaking water, probably about a week. When I went under the house (I'm on a hill so can walk easily in the crawlspace to put away some things from the deck before a storm I noticed steam and the water dripping. It was hot or warm water and there was condensation everywhere on the wood, on the insulation. Everything was soggy and mold occurred all over the place. Depending on what caused the water pipe to leak my insurance may cover up to $5000 of mold remediation and $2000 for the insulation. But it really doesn't sound like they would cover it. And that is less than half the total cost. I'm not sure I want to submit a claim because I live in a high fire danger area and so many people here can't even get homeowner's insurance. And even a claim that is denied shows on my insurance profile. You were lucky your husband could do the cleanup. I don't have anyone who could do that and even if I find someone willing, I wouldn't want to risk the health of any one and prefer to pay more for a professional. My furnace and a/c are under the house so I can't even turn the heater on until the mold issue is taken care of because the fan could push mold spores into the house. The remediation company is already booked out a month so the earliest they could start would be sometime in December.

Thanks Ettenauj and Bill! I plan for home expenses, especially big ones. But this is unplanned.
