I'm so discouraged. I would have thought that I'd lose more than 5 lbs. this first week. I've stayed under my carb allowance every day but I think I'm not eating enough times during the day so I'm making starvation hormones anyway. If this week doesn't go better, I'm going to take some time out for a metabolic tune-up.

Congratulations on 5 lbs - that is fantastic! You may do it again next week, so I wouldn't worry too much. Enjoy the loss and I hope it continues at that pace for you for awhile!!!

5lbs is a really good loss for the 1st week. Are you drinking enough water, i find that always aids weight loss....its not easy though!!

What is a metabolic tune-up?

Metabolic tune-up: Okay, so here's the secret...I'm not REALLY following Atkins. I'm following Curves (which is pretty much the same thing according to my husband who HAS done Atkins). A metabolic tune-up is where you record your current weight and that's your low weight. You go back to eating normally (but healthy) and try to eat between 2500 - 3000 calories a day (I know, that's a LOT). You'll gain 3 - 5 lbs in a couple of days. When that happens, record your weight - that's your high weight - and drop back to below 20 carbs/day until you're back down to your low weight. Then repeat the cycle until it takes almost a month to gain back the 3-5 lbs. This means that your metabolism has sped up. Then go back to <20 carbs/day and continue phase 1.
