CarmenR4322's Journal, 13 November 2019

The last 2 weeks have been a roller coaster of emotion. I started working from home last week, this entailed is rushing to get the “office” aka storage room cleaned up and remodeled. It only took 1 weekend to rip out and replace the carpeting, paint the walls, redo all the trim and make the ceiling look nice (I put wallpaper up, sounds weird but it looks awesome). Set up my desk/work station, put in a futon and added some plants. It’s probably my new favorite room in the house.
I also got some pretty unfortunate news, last year- and some people may remember this, but I started doing this weight loss thing to be healthier and to hopefully give me dad a kidney, he’s currently in renal failure and has been on dialysis for over 6 years. It’s gotten to the point now where he could potentially only have a few months left to live if he does not receive a kidney. For them to test me, my weight has to be 273 pounds so I am starting to really feel the pressure. My dad has never asked me to donate but obviously as his only child with the same blood type (O-) I would almost be a guarantee as a direct match for him, but I’m restricted by my weight- which has happened my whole life in one way or another... and I’m so tired of feeling that way 😢 so I am not battling anxiety fits to keep from falling into a depression. We’ve completely redone the kitchen and dining room paint (again), redid the window/door trim, I’ve gone through everything downstairs and gotten rid of anything I deemed invaluable, clutter contributes to my anxiety and I just hate stuff, everything has a place and if it’s not in its place it gets thrown away.
I also finally hit my 50 pound mark, super excited about that! I really need to make the commitment now to start hitting the gym, I pay $78 a month for a family membership and we’ve used it once to go swimming 🤦🏻‍♀️ My work schedule changed and I am now off work earlier so I really have no reason why I can’t start going. So I think I’m going to find a personal trainer and start on that journey when I get back from Vacation.
Oh yes!! And next Friday I leave for Vacation, we are going to be in Vegas for a week. After 10 years together and 3 kiddos, we decided it’s time to tie the knot 🥰 it’s going to be nothing fancy, but a cheesy Vegas wedding sounds perfect for us!

Carmen- wonderful that you want to donate to your dad. There are many things that need to match for a person to be an acceptable donor— much more than the basic blood type. You might also consider a heart to heart with your doctor or your dad’s nephrologist regarding your overall donor suitability— yes weight is an issue and the potential risk for you due to the weight. It is still a major surgery for both persons. See if they can tissue type you to see if you are indeed a viable donor. Good luck to you both.
