Hey, Kaylinrenee, have you ever done strength training while fasting like this? I've fasted, and I've trained, but I've never done both. I've been wanting to do a weekend water fast (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, nothing but water) for a while now, but I'm now doing a little running and hitting the weights on Saturdays :/ Would love some advice from someone who's been there.

I've done my best when I brought an apple or banana along on workout days but I haven't ever really done the fasting thing so I don't really know any good pick-me-ups that would work...what do you do when you are fasting if you need some energy?? Is juice cheating??

Chris literally laughed out loud lmao I feel like it depends on the time of day also. Sometimes I narrow to friends so I don't miss anyone lol as long as I didn't do anything to make you angry haha I've never strength trained while fasted but I have ran before period and the energy just comes out of the wood works. I always feel better when I am fasted and running so I figured it would be the same with working out. So, UPDATE. My muscles are shaky but that's because I don't think they have seen exercise before lol I feel great even stayed for the stretch class

Also I'm not doing a straight water fast. I am just not eating any solids. I will have a protein shake for dinner. S the week goes on I will probably have 2 or 3 protein shakes depending on how I am feeling. Also hey watch the running insults ;) i want you to find a local marathon and hold up a sign saying running is mindless Haha

lol, liquid calories are still calories ;) I've done quite a bit of fasting in the past, from 1-day to one 5-day. other than IF, I don't really use fasting as a way of forcing my body to burn fat -- it was always more about the self discipline for me. I looked at my getting out of shape as getting lazy, then fat. The first fast I ever did, I went four days because I felt the need to prove to myself that I was the master of my body, not food. Other than getting hungry the first two day, I've never had any energy issues or really even hunger issues fasting. I've always worked out a little while fasting, but nothing really heavy though. I haven't one weights in a while until today, but I did some incline press and high rows at 120# and some chest presses at 90 & 100#. I'd like to bump the weight up (kind of slowly, of course.) until I get back to the point where I can do unassisted pull ups -- but at 289, I have a ways to go lol. I just want to make sure I'm not going to pass out while doing the presses or the rows Saturday lol

Oh, I meant to say, but forgot, that I'm coming around to the idea of fasting for fat burning -- it just wasn't the specific motivation behind my first fasts.

Calories are calories but liquid versus solid is different when it comes to digestion and retention. When I was fasting to lose a lot of weight I would run at the end of my fast and then eat when I was finished... as long as you are working out when you are fasted you are going to have the maximum fat burn for your body. Right now I just would like to burn a little bit of fat without gaining it all back in food weight.

Right now I am not focusing on the scale, but myself. It's going to be super hard mentally but I am not weighing till Saturday

so you lifted today while fasted but didn't feel like you were going to kill over? How was your energy? If you experience massive energy while running fasted, then I might try my 3-day starting tomorrow. Then I'll catch tomorrow night's run and Thursday's run and can see just how my body does with it.

@Chrisw, that's what I did today: I had my coffee this morning, a little creatine water just before getting in the truck to go to the Y, then a protein shake on the drive home :) supper is looking like a pork, broccoli, cauliflower, and bell pepper stir fry :D

Great minds think alike, so they say. Haha it was more like core/balance today. And aerobic exercises. Nothing too hard core. I'll always take advice from the master ;)

I would say; listen to your body, I did my first fasting of 38 hours last week and I was feeling great. It was not that hard, I am sure you have more experience with that 😉.
