Does anyone else have severe dry eyes only at night where you wake up with your eyelids stuck to your eyes? I have a gel that I use sporadically because when I do use it it takes 2+ hours to remove it in the morning, and in the meanwhile everything is blurry during that time. Any advice?

Try an ointment instead of gel, it washes easier. Heat helps, and Fish oil. I suggest you see a doctor for the dry eye - they really can help.

Sorry for calling it a gel, it actually is an anointment, and I take a high quality triple dose of fish oil. Thanks for chiming in. The odd thing is I have zero problems from mid morning onward until I awake the next day.

My husband has the exact same issue with his eyes. It's extremely painful for him if he doesn't is his ointment. Not sure what kind you're using, but the name brand that he uses is Muro, tho he buys the store brand. Sodium Chloride Ophthalmic ointment 5%. He can actually still read once he puts it in. He doesn't have to wash it out the next day either. I guess his body absorbs it, but it does better than eye drops.

Same issue for me. I go to an optometrist and get eye lubricant that works well.

Hi adam, what exactly are you using? I use Systane nighttime ointment, a tiny 1/4 inch ribbon; or Genteal lubricant eye gel. I haven't found a "best" eye drop yet, my Dr likes Oasis which I get at Amazon.

gz9gig, I use GenTeal Night-Time Ointment. This was a recommendation for (I know) my primary care doctor. I also use a 1/4" ribbon, but it's very hard to apply. You state GenTeal as a jell, but the tube has it as an ointment. Which of the two do you recommend the highest?

Thanks LSG417, I'll give Muro some consideration. At this point anything has to be better than what I'm using. Wished there was a permanent solution.

You might look for gel drops - I have Refresh Optive gel drops, and blink gel tears. They don't clog my eyelashes or my vision, and feel really soothing. I also use FreshKote (buy at Amazon) but it leaves a deposit on my lashes that's hard to get off.

You can probably tell, I have about 10 different drops ointments gels that I use . . . had LASIK and got the "gift" of dry eye. I also have been using Restasis for 3 months but so far I am not impressed.

Do you use ceiling fans and window fans when you sleep? Mine are better since winter had set in but we will see once it gets hot again.

gz9gig, I haven't had LASIK (yet). I do appreciate your contribution to the discussion. Others will likely benefit as well.

LittleRedFox, no fan for me. I try not to introduce things into my life that can be habit forming. I have an addictive personality. I learned that concerning a radio I started using in my early teens, after a year I couldn't sleep without it. Since then I have never used anything like that, and we have never had a TV in the bedroom. As for as humidity and winter, I actually have it overly humid for the temperature. I also suffer from dry sinuses when no one else does.

Don't do LASIK. Talk to me if you are considering it.

Will do, but very little cataract going on now.

I have that have fought with it a lot over the last 3 years in particular. What I'm finding, at least for me, is that when it flares up it is a pretty accurate indicator that i'm not getting enough water. Which seems to translate into not having enough tears to wash away pollen, dust, mics. junk in the air that I'm allergic to.

Cataract surgery gives much better results than LASIK.
