Habits: I think that forming new habits is very difficult. Monday I realized that I always have no snacks in my desk on Mondays. So, to change this, I have to stop eating all of what I bring for the week and save some for Monday, or remember to bring something first thing on Monday morning. I have heard that you have to repeat somehting 28 times before it is a habit. It's not enough to remember for 28 days - I have to remember for 28 Sundays to put together my Monday food!

I am going on college visits starting tomorrow with my daughter - the beginning of a new adventure for her and the new adventure for me as an empty nester with no one in my nest but birds! This means that all of the things I do now, those habits developed raising kids and being a wife, I will have to change and practice until I get lots of new habits. One of them will have to be eating carefully!

Hope your week is going well - last time I tried to post, fatsecret trashed my journal entry!

You are on the money about forming habits. I was doing real well drinking water daily and it just fell apart, and now I only get in about 30 oz a day. I need to find my "path" and stay on it. I just read your journal and wish you well with "empty nesting". This can be a good thing. You can cook what YOU want and WHEN you want. Read about your bird. Glad to hear it is back home. What kind do you have. I used to have a caique (sp?) but he bit me too much. When he molted he was mean! We gave him to our pet groomer. Lots of money lost there. FS trashed your journal? How, was it a computer issue? This site is great but really has problems. Have a nice Friday and be well.

Have fun on those college visits. If I can adjust anyone can. lol Hard in the beginning but it gets easier and the year flew by. Start thinking of things you want to do now because at first it is too much time on your hands. Make a plan

I don't know about the 'facts' but actually I think it takes LONGER than 28 days to form a new habit!! LOL!!! I've been on here over a year and my "old" habits are sneaky ... they still try to take over and my "new" habits ... well I have to practice them every damn day to keep them going!!! But ... that said ... you are on the right path ... must actually PRACTICE those "new" habits to make them stick!! So many changes in your life this year. Both disturbing and exciting. I think you'll be just fine being an 'empty nester' and you'll lose the lbs., gain the body you are craving, find ways to enjoy yourself and have fun, make new friends, you'll be fine Abba ... you are a very resourceful and determined person and you DESERVE to enjoy yourself!!!

Mindfulness really helps in so many of these areas. I find that being completely mindful stops me from doing a lot of things that are habitual. I heartily recommend it! :) Have a wonderful time and enjoy the time you have with your daugther helping her transition to this new and exciting chapter in her life. :)

Hi abba, Thanks for your witty comment on my journal the other day. It made me laugh. I not too sure about the 28 days although I like the severness of that discipline. I do know that breaking a old habit and replacing it with a new one requires a rewiring of the circuity in the brain. Once one has the habit though, it can be very instrumental in changing one's evil ways. ;-) I hope that you are well my friend.
