aggie95's Journal, 06 August 2015

Feeling down today! It started yesterday when I went over to my parents' farm. Currently my dad had 4 cows. He's 82 and really having a hard time to do anything anymore. It's very hard to watch a once very active determined man that now doesn't do much and doesn't want to do much. Anyway, his milk cow had a calf 3 weeks ago. And my dad has decided to sell the cow because she gives too much milk (roughly 70 litres a day) and the milk is just being thrown out. So last night was the last night that me and my 5 year old son got to see her as she and her calf go to the sale barn today. She is a sweet cow that we named Daisy. I'm upset that she is going for 2 reasons. One being that it's the end of my dad milking cows and he's giving it up and two being that this cow was very sweet. I know that she'll go into a dairy herd and be ok but she won't be with us anymore. I guess I'm feeling selfish and I just want things to stay the same and not change.

Like I said I was upset last night and turn to chips. So my eating wasn't good last night. And I'm upset today but I hope that I can stay on track to eating better. I definitely need to get out at lunchtime and get a good run in.

Thanks for listening buddies!

How you feel is totally understandable. Eighty-two years is a long time to be working so hard, he deserves to rest. I don't think it's selfish to want everything to stay the same, especially when that is how it was probably as long as you can remember. I do terribly with change. I'm sorry you will be missing daisy, it's hard letting good of old friends. A run might be just what you need to help you sort out your thoughts/feelings. You will be in my thoughts :)

Change is hard, especially when it comes to loved ones. ((hugs))

Change is very hard and it's hard to see our parents slowing down. Hopefully it will help your dad slow down and have a little more energy to have one less responsibility. I hope you got your run in and it did help you feel better.

I hear ya! My Dad is 88 and he and my Mom came to see me for a few weeks this spring. It's very difficult to see your once active and vital parents change before your eyes. I feel for you...
