Tatmummy's Journal, 15 January 2015

So I've been watching that dieting expriment show on the BBC, anyone else? Anyway I don't think i learned anything new, I already knew that eating on the run was really unsatisfying and likely to make you eat again more quickly - yesterday I grabbed a sandwich between meetings and ate as I walked - after I'd eaten I didn't feel any different to be fore I ate! Total waste of 317 calories! so no more - all my eating from now on will be 'concious eating' and I will eat slower too so my brain has time to catch up with my stomach.

In other news the 3 bags of chocolate in my desk draw are still there - each time I see them I have a momement of 'ooh chocolate' but that is quickly followed by 'no I'll feel rubbish afterwards and have to have a tiny dinner' lol. shame to waste them though, maybe i'll factor them into my calories for a weekend.

I've been practicing 'Mindfulness' for about nine-months now and have tried to eat mindfully since I've started watching what I eat. It's bascially the same as the 'conscious eating' I would imagine, just being fully aware of what your eating, chewing slowly and being solely focused on the food. There's some decent books on Amazon about Mindful Eating. My biggest downfall is/was eating far too fast and too many portions as my body had no time to register it was full.

yep. I can snarf down a McD burger in a few seconds and then of course I need another and that is appalling food, no excuse! Ha! Lets hope the eating slower and with more thought helps change some habits. I've also found that asking myself "do I really need to eat that" rather than 2could I eat that" or "do I fancy that" is helping, I'm rarely starving, just peckish..so waiting til the next meal is not such a hardship. I'm drinking more water (and coffee! oops) too

I am finding myself hungry, but trying not to stuff my face on snacks. Will adjust to it no doubt!

I've been watching the series - think it's ended now. Very fascinating insight into our behaviours to food and towards keeping on the path of healthy living. I particulary liked the experiment with the cakes and the 2 groups of dieters.. Lesson learned - when you've stumbled at maintaining your dieting regime, just start again or keep going... JabberTheClaret - why don't you just give the chocolates away!!
