BuffyBear's Journal, 16 August 2014

It has been 2 weeks since we made the painful decision to to have our beloved Shi Tzu euthanized. He had suffered enough. His long illness was one of the stressors that led to my recent weight gain.

OK - so I know it was just a dog, but he had been our baby for 9 years.

I'm so sorry! They're not just dogs, they're our fur-kids. Sending hugs your way!

So sad, they are like are children. I would be devastated to lose my Sosie (kitty). I completely empathize. Know that she is smiling down on you & you will see her again someday.

I dont' believe a dog is just a dog. I have had two in the last 20 years that were like children to me. I had my beloved 'denali that was my buddy we went hiking everything together.. When I lost him I got a toy poodle, that with the work I used to do had her trained as a service animal she is my constant companion she is 11 and I would be lost with out her.. So No he wasn't just a dog he was your baby....

Aw, Buffy. We had our 9 yo golden retriever put down July 4. Liver cancer. It was so hard, yet we were with her when she was euthanized and comforted her and each other as she left us. We took her to a beautiful spot overlooking a gorge with a creek in the bottom and hoodoos across from her to bury her. The moss has grown in over her. "Just a dog." No. A piece of our heart and a gift for us. Take care. Damn tears.

So sorry for your loss. Never apologize for grieving-- your dog was part of your family and you held unconditional love for each other.

I lost both of my bulldogs last year within months of each other and it was one of the most stressful things I have ever been through! never JUST A DOG!! They are our family and we love them and when they leave a bit of our heart goes with them...I also work as a veterinary technician so I see the other side of this great loss almost daily. Someday the pain will be replaced with the happy memories of the wonderful life you gave your furbaby and the unconditional love your furbaby gave to you! HUGS

It's never "just a dog"...it's most often the love of one's life. We know what it's like to grieve a pet's loss. Don't eat your pain away, walk it away in memory of your little guy cuz he's probably invisibly walking along side you. My condolences. SMB

NO not just a dog...our furbabies are family and mean so much to us..and sometimes we have to just let them go.. the pain of losing a precious pet is just as hard as losing a loved one cause they are our loved ones and our constant...we learn their language as they can speak volumes to us...and they learn ours as well...My heart hurts for you dear...Love and Hugs Buffy girl...:O)

Sorry to hear that, it's a sad time. Our lab has been with us since he was 6 wks old and is 15 now. Still in relatively good health but I know there'll come a time when we'll have to think of him more than ourselves which seems to be what you've done. A very tough but brave decision. Nothing worse than watching them suffer.

My heart goes out to you, and when you lose a pet, you lose a part of self. Hugs!

Heart breaking news brings back memories of my pain when I had to have Beaugi euthanized and panic at the knowledge that the same decision is looming for his successor in my life. So much love causes so much pain.
