SPRING RECOMP 2021 - DAY 3
Post Lift Wrap Up

I really didn't think I was going to make it to the gym, much less lift. Mad DOMS all morning. Brutal coming down the stairs. Pushed through my morning mobility work and felt a little better, but then I put in a couple hours at my desk and found myself pretty much frozen in the chair when I went to get up. Got moving and dressed and had a bagel and a giant diet coke for pre-workout. Then plunked down on the couch and took a nap. Hour later fired up the sound track and forced myself out the door, hoodie up, shoes untied, and limping.

Felt marginally better after a couple minutes on the elliptical. Hit the squat rack and baselined my press. 5 rep sets from empty bar to first hint of a grind at 95# in 5# increments. Pretty pleased with that.

Then the moment of truth. Started off with an air squat/stretch. Had to hold on to the safety bar to make it down. How in the hell am I supposed to squat a load if I can't even get body weight for a rep? The answer is always to take the smallest next possible step. Can you squat the bar for one single rep? Yep. OK. Let's do that. So I did. All the cues and form were right there, like I never left. Bar laid perfectly right across clavicle. The drop to the hole, however, was considerably less poetic. The weight of the bar actually helped, but it was a definite grinder. Up stroke much easier. And then we're off, dancing to Rage between the half squatter on my right and the overequipped box squatter with the "obsessed with excellence; focused on results" or w/e tshirt on my left. My aspiration to relaunch my front squat from a single plate baseline was, as fate would have it, ambitious. But hey, at least I earned my dinner.

Threw in triple supersets of plank/knee ups/crunches, and headed for the grill.

Little more reasonable today with the choices. No 7 Eleven stop for snacks. I think we can lose that habit permanently. Stayed out of the quiche and banana bread. No grilled cheese. Snacked on fat free cottage cheese with a little fruit and honey instead of Ben and Jerry's smothered in walnuts. Looks like I'll end up under 3000 for the day. Fat down; protein up. That's perfect if we can level it out there for a minute.
