Katsolo's Journal, 06 February 2020

Funny thing, life. One of my very first, and definitely most meaningful mentors helped me set up some life goals a long time ago. He's since passed on, but I really did take his advice to heart on a number of things, including the whole, "Well, here we are, where do we go now?" take on life, negotiations, etc. I still miss him, he taught me so much about so many things. He took up piano in his mid-50's and played jazz in local clubs for fun.

I didn't even realize it (friend just pointed it out), but I hit another one of those milestones today. And I won't share what it is, but I'm memorializing the day here, 02.06.2020. Cool.

Enough time basking, need to keep working towards the next one. I have three more big ones.

If you find yourself in the position to mentor someone, do it. Your impact might not be obvious to either of you at that point in time, but long term, it can grow exponentially.

I'm also going to add, he never treated me differently as a female. In a technical world, that's a rarity, and it's made me tough as nails when needed. Sure, it sucked sometimes when I got an overwhelming task and had to figure out whether I was going to sink or swim, but I'm still here.

Walk the talk. It matters.

"If you find yourself in the position to mentor someone, do it. Your impact might not be obvious to either of you at that point in time, but long term, it can grow exponentially." Truer words were never spoken. Even at our worst, seemingly overwhelmed by our own foibles, we can have a life changing positive impact on someone else. And perhaps doing so helps unlock our own path forward in equally not obvious ways... peace

@jimmiepop I'm glad you stopped to comment, you're kind of a mentor to me here, and I appreciate the time you take to comment on the little things. We all need encouragement along the way. #grindtime

This is a beautiful tribute to a wonderful man. It’s fantastic to have had someone as special as that in your life. It’s even more special that you honor him so .
