skwhite's Journal, 02 December 2012

Yesterday I spent the day at a nutrition and physical education forum for preschoolers in Sacramento. I got lot's of great idea's for using in my classroom. But I found a couple of things to be very interesting.

They offered us "breakfast" which consisted of nothing but coffee or tea and muffins, probably from Costco. That's it. I just thought that was so interesting because that's not breakfast and those sugary muffins may taste good but they are not good for anyone to be eating and definetly not healthy.

At the end of the day they had a forum where you could ask questions of a panel and one lady asked how do you talk to parents about their child who is obese. They hemmed and hawed about that one wanting to be politically correct. I thought about it later and would have said modeling to parents and children. If you want them to be healthier then you need to show them what it looks like. I am amazed at the number of people who really don't know how to cook or think it's too hard to cook healthy.
