I have been having an issue with my right leg in the front above my ankle, I don't know if it is a shin splint or not, just that when I try to walk at a brisk speed it really hurts. I have had my treadmill at the highest incline and thought maybe I was trying to walk too fast at that incline so I lowered it a bit, but it still hurt when I walked faster than 3mph. I'm thinking I'll lower it all the way before starting walking tonight and see how it feels tonight.

Please rest - shin splints actually pull at the bone and can be slow to heal, especially the worse the injury is. Rest, Ice, Elevate. If not shin splints, could be from lack of shock absorption, need better / new shoes.

Gz9gjg, I was also wondering if I need to replace my shoes. They aren't very old and I only use them for walking (Sketchers). Is it normal for only one leg to hurt from shin splints?

Yes that is normal. Good shoes are always helpful. But you have to wait for it to heal

For at least 10 minutes - Use an ice pack on the pain location & place the toes above your nose....

I am not familiar with Sketchers, but fashion brands seldom provide real support or cushioning. I would get shoes from a walking / running store. As to only one leg hurting: that happens to me sometimes; my left leg is shorter and my left foot larger; so my stride is uneven.
