Vocatus's Journal, 13 January 2019

Sunday update: Well, I haven't added in any of my meals since Saturday's "lunch." As can be seen from my food journal, I had a slice of birthday cake and a scoop of ice cream, then a little bit later I ate a small bowl of chili with some Fritos and cheddar. Not exactly Keto friendly, but I already knew I wouldn't be worrying too much about staying to the diet on my youngest daughter's first birthday.

My wife made a double batch of keto chili, however, in the Instant Pot while we were away, and I had a bowl of that once we got home. I've had two bowls of it today. It's delicious! I add the customary chia seeds, nutritional yeast flakes, cheddar, sour cream, and hot sauce, of course :)

I'll update the food journal once my wife's recipe is approved by the FatSecret recipe reviewers. I'm still looking at nowhere near the 2600+ calories FS says I need to lose 2 pounds a week lol. Still weighing in at 294 this morning too.

My wife did join FS today (or maybe it was last night) and wants to join me on my next fast. I was going to begin a 3-day today, but she wasn't quite ready, so we're putting it off until Wednesday so we can do it together. She's never fasted before, but she really wants to give it a try. I'm not too worried though. My first fast was a 4-day, and it went just fine.

James, I'm looking forward to your "keto chili" recipe. However, don't wait for TPTB to approve your recipes before you post to your food log. I have submitted 10-or-so over the years that have *never* been approved. I don't know why, but I don't worry about it. As long as they're in "My Cook Book" (My Fat Secret/My Community section/My Cook Book), I use them.

So, I had to get my wife following me and follow her so I could get to her daily food diary (for some reason, I couldn't search for her by name). But now I have the Keto Chili recipe. Feel free to check out my food diary and get the recipe :D The serving size is set as 1 serving. That's sort of confusing, as you don't really know how big a serving is. This time we made a double batch, but the original recipe says it makes six servings. Next time we make it (I'm sure it'll be a weekly thing), she'll only do a single batch and I'll divide it into 6 equal parts to see just how big a serving is, then update the recipe by adding it as a food item, as apparently you can't manually set the serving size for recipes (or at least, it doesn't seem like you can).

If you eat it as I do (sour cream, cheddar, yeast flakes, chia, added), you might freak out at the number of carbs. However, nearly half of that is fiber. I'm showing 52g carbs for the day Sunday, but 22 of that is fiber. And Sat - Sun, I ate about 2,000 calories. I'm set at a 2,600 RDI for 1.5 to 2 pounds a week loss. My usual once per day meal has had me averaging about 1,200 lol. I'm going back to once a day for Monday & Tuesday to ease into the 3-day fast. will for the most part be at 1/day moving forward.
