SoCalPam's Journal, 01 July 2018

Last night I went out to dinner with friends to a place where you can make your own "instant" pizza. It's a big trend where I live and there are lots of places like this. Their standard size is a 10" thin crust dough that you can top with whatever you want. I can eat the whole thing and wash it down with a beer, but I'm trying to be realistic with calories :D I had also been to two parties earlier in the day and indulged in 2 cookies and a cupcake, things I don't usually eat (majorly cutting out sugar right now, except, I guess, that day). I ordered the child's pizza: 6" which I was able to top with two items. I chose mushrooms and black olives. I love pepperoni, but it's fatty and caloric, so I passed. However, I succumbed on the "salad" which was basically a deli container filled with greens. I chose spinach. I could choose one topping so I chose bacon. I added a light raspberry vinaigrette. Total calories for everything was 986 which is really high for me for one meal. I'd skipped breakfast, though, so I had a few extra calories to spend. I went over my RDI for the day by 100 calories, which I can live with. My take-away from the day is that I went to three parties, enjoyed the food, and only went over by 100 calories. I did not let "well, it's the weekend" or "well, it's a party" influence me (much) because I've worked too dang hard to get where I am. Re-training my brain is the hardest thing I've ever done, but it's WORKING. I can look back over my food for the day and see that if I'd chosen a different topping for my greens my RDI would have been on target, and that's a choice I may make another time. Or maybe I'll enjoy that bacon and leave off the cupcake. It's all about choices and my eyes are finally opening up and figuring it out.

Great! I'm not quite there yet, but I am having experiences like this. I'm hoping that, over time, it becomes second nature.
