Edith— just keep in mind that I am NOT diabetic but I loosely follow the ADA guideline by choice. Again they do about 40% of your CALORIES as high quality carbs, 30-35% high quality fats and the rest good proteins.. so,
1200 calories a day is where my routine WOE typically lands me. That 40% of my total calories translates to 480 CALORIES.
there are 4 calories in a gram of carbs. That equals about 120 carbs plus the ADA recommends a couple of 15 gram carb snacks.. so that is where that 150 gram number comes from. It is important for me to again say that I am not diabetic— so it is no heart break if I go over for a special occasion— I have that luxury, but I don’t choose to do that every day. Back in the old days, 300 gm of carbs was thought to be healthier than a lot of fat, but we know now that those numbers are not really acceptable either. Anyway, that’s where those numbers come from. Do the math on your own calorie threshold and see what your numbers look like. BTW, fats are 9 calories per gram and protein is 4 calories per gram— same as carbs.. I enjoy “talking” with you— keep up the good work. It’s not easy but you will find a WOE that works for you. You have a couple of medical issues so remember to keep your doctor and/or dietician in the loop.
