"Nothing in the world is inherently interesting. Things are interesting because we take the time and effort to make them interesting. If you have a fluid definition of work and leisure, then much of the time you can turn whatever the job is into play by gamifying it.

If you practice a kind of presence about being where you are rather than waiting to get out of a task in the near future, and if you design the circumstances around your demands to be somewhat challenging, then there is no reason that you can’t enjoy the time that pays you.

This mentality also saves you from getting caught up in the rat race to nowhere. You play because it’s enjoyable, not because you’re chasing some imagined destination of success."

Yes glen! Isn't it wonderful to visit something that old? Me too- when I was in Italy, in a small village called Fiesole outside of Florence, I stood in front of a giant outdoor stone altar, over 1000 years old dedicated to Hercules! There was nobody around --I could have climbed into it and gazed at the sky-- I refrained and chilled beneath a nearby olive tree instead 😄. I love all things ancient-- love the graceful patina of old things-- on people too! 😄

@Bluecoaster- Agree that making work your agreement with yourself ...is the secret to being into it...thus happier at it and invested. Makes a better employee as well. Well put.

When I visited York, England I was looking at an old stone wall and someone remarked that the Romans had built it. I literally froze and just absorbed the moment realizing Roman soldiers had at one time walked this same stretch of land and labored for the emperor. Humbling and inspiring at the same time.

Being in the moment is actually called mindfulness, and I constantly struggle with it. I have a lot of anxiety, too. I have Asperger's Syndrome, and have a hard time thinking critically for this reason. I also am rigid, so I lack the open-mindedness part of critical thinking as well. I won't change my schedule for anything. My exercise at 6 p.m. is critical to helping me destress from my day, so I won't miss it for anything.
