Ryan Rainey's Journal, 25 February 2017

1. Weight came back down a little this morning.
2. Ketosis at 41.
3. Blood Pressure at 131/84 @ 89 bpm.
4. Blood Sugar @ 101 mg/dL.
5. Kind of took the day off yesterday...grilled some chicken for dinner and smoke a good cigar. I haven't had a good cigar in months. I really wanted a good glass of whiskey to go with it, but decided not to. In this early phase of the diet, alcohol can negatively effect ketosis. So, I have given up alcohol for now along with my carbs.
6. skipped on exercise last night, really wish I hadn't.
7. All in all, a good day...I guess.
370.4 lb Lost so far: 0 lb.    Still to go: 120.4 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Hey Ryan! (I'm new here . . .) Would you mind telling me how you got into ketosis, and how difficult it is to stay there? e.g. how many carbohydrate gms before you're OUT of ketosis. Thanks!

cybernurse, First off, if you are serious about ketosis, you will need a way to track it. It can be tracked by urine, blood, or breath ketones. Urine ketones only work in the beginning and fall off once you are in ketosis. And blood ketone testers are expensive and a little hard to come by. Therefore, Breath ketones are what I test for with my Ketonix Breath Ketone Analyzer. You can order these online. As far as, getting into Ketosis and carb tolerance. To get into Ketosis you will need to cut carbs out almost completely. For most people, they need to stay under 50 grams of carbs in order to get in. Those 50 grams need to come from your green veggies and the like (no unnecessary sugars, bread, potatoes, etc...) No "net carb" counting either...If you eat a carb, it counts no matter how much fiber you take in. It can take two weeks or more to build up enough ketones to be in ketosis...be patient. When it comes to carb tolerance, everyone is different. Once in ketosis you can experiment with you level to find it. My level is right at 80 grams of carb per day right now. As I get in better shape, I expect that number to go up some. I hope this information helps you and best of luck.

guess you're not diabetic? i put myself in ketosis got skin & bones & now taking much insulen to keep me alive. Dr. smelled me when he walked in.said you're type1 diabetic.

Joymimi - you had ketoacidosis which occurs with type 1 diabetes. Ketosis is different but similar enough that it's probably not recommended for a type 1 diabetic.
