Well, not too bad a result for having spent the holidays eating like it was going out of style, and not even walking like I had intended to, despite the mild weather. There are no excuses--that's just how it was. I reaped all the benefits of my dramatically slimmed-down figure, with none of the discipline. The secret to my success? I caught a terrible stomach bug that completely emptied my system in about 3-4 hours. I don't recommend this method, but it does seem to be effective. A friend who also had it claims he lost about 5 lbs. as a result, and I believe it.

Anyway, I had every firm intention, when we returned home on Tuesday night, of starting the old regimen yesterday (Wed.), only to be flat on my back with some kind of respiratory bug. Argh. The good news is, the idea of food is a bit repugnant, which keeps me from overeating. The bad news is, I don't feel like cooking anything, so tend to want to grab things that are not so nutritious, and easy to swallow. Thank God for orange juice! But I need to do a bit better, to speed my recovery.

In any case, I am thrilled not to have gained much weight over the holidays, even for negative reasons (might as well make the best of what you have, right?). As an act of good faith, I am weighing in today, though not recording food yet. Certainly by the weekend, I should be up to doing so, even if not tomorrow, and now I have a baseline from which to work. I still have a fit-into-clothing goal to accomplish by mid-Feb., a trip in March, and a reach-goal-by-birthday target for June. This could really be my year!

Good luck to any fellow travelers who read this. Slow and steady wins the race... eventually.
