Major victory for me last night: Said NO to the bbq plate when I went to Mar's house. ("Mar" is short for "Mary" in case anyone was wondering.) I took my own black bean salad and some fresh cherries for dessert. I felt so much better than if I had eaten that bbq pork. I had underestimated the calories a few weeks ago, thinking bbq was made with pork tenderloin. Wrong! It's made with Boston butt or pork shoulder, which has about 247 calories for a 4-oz serving. It's the fat that makes it so delicious and such an a**-bomb.
I was able to do about 15 minutes of step aerobics yesterday, instead of my usual 5. It's not quite as easy on the knees as an elliptical, so I have to step carefully.
8:30pm -- And finally didn't have the usual afternoon headache from no-caffeine. Why did I give it up? I was feeling like I couldn't get through the day without 3 or more mugs. It was a true addiction. I know that green tea is healthier, so I thought it was time to switch now while I'm making better dietary choices.
11:15pm -- Egad, I can feel a lot of bloat in my stomach even though I didn't binge on calories today. What is up with that? I feel certain my weight will be level or maybe even higher tomorrow morning. Curious to see.

Go Coco!! Good for you for making awesome choices. It amazes me as well when I actually look into what I'm eating how different the reality is from what I thought. Keep up the great work.

I wondered why you turned down the BBQ till I read your explanation. Yeow! a**-bomb indeed! Guess that it is a good candidate for making it yourself so you can control those calories. Another thing that is off the charts is pizza, but I make my own and it fits nicely into my eating plan.
I like step too! I have not done it in a very long time. My step is under the guest bed and the tapes on a shelf. I guess I should get them out and try it again.

Thanks, ladies! Yes, I am getting a totally new perspective on caloric values of foods that I never took the time to familiarize myself with before. As you say, you can make your own versions of foods that seem really sinful -- like pizza -- with less than half the calories. But it's just as filling and actually, much less disgusting.

You can eat lots of things if you make a lower calories version yourself, and take moderate portion. I make my own barbecue beef (KC style) with Dad's barbecue sauce recipe (he's a cattle rancher). It perfectly legal on my diet, as long as I don't eat too much. I think pork barbecue might be tougher to make a low calories version
