Hurrah! After several false starts, I am finally on a keto diet (As of Sun. June 3)and am seeing results already even though my keto reading is only "small (15)."
After all of the great feedback from others on this diet (many thanks to all!), I decided to do my own thing with morning coffee. Didn't like the buttered coffee and cannot stand coconut oiled coffee, but once I tried MCT oil (flavorless) I was sold! A shot or two of espresso, 2T of MCT oil, a tablespoon of whipping cream, a 1/2C of Fairlife milk, a 1/2 Cup of almond milk, 1 pkg stevia, a couple of drops of sugarfree vanilla syrup, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and I'm set for the morning. Now I do find that it helps cut my hunger pangs so that I don't need lunch until 2pm or later. And by having lunch later I don't get a midafternoon slump that leaves me screaming for a sugar fix.

Today, for some unknown reason, my morning brew didn't do the trick. I was starving by 10:30 this morning and craving a bowl of oatmeal. That's too many carbs, so I made a substitute: 2T Carrington's Flax Chia Blend, 2T coconut flour, 1/2 tsp. of cinn- amon, a sprinkle of stevia, and 3/4 C water microwaved for 1 minute. It has 4g more fat, 7g more fiber, 9 fewer net carbs, and only 45 more calories than oatmeal. Next time, I think I'll add chopped toasted almonds (as I used to do to oatmeal sometimes) to get more crunch and break up the rather glutinous feel of the cereal. I think it's a pretty good substitute for oatmeal for those of us trying to go VERY low carb.

How are you feeling? Did you get the Keto flu?

Also I blend 2 tbs of butter with 1 tbs of MCT oil. I add a couple drops of Stevia and it’s good!

Welcome to KetoWorld, 222Patricia! Good luck and best wishes on your journey! I'm not quite there (too many total carbs, usually) but I'm seeing great results as far as falling blood sugar readings and weight loss. I don't like Bulletproof Coffee, either, and use heavy whipping cream instead. But I forgot how much I love coffee with spices -- cardamom, cinnamon, a little ginger. Thanks for the reminder!

Please make sure to supplement electrolytes - on low carb, the kidneys shed salt, which can cause dizziness, mental confusion, constipation and headaches. A cup or two of salty broth or bouillon daily avoids the problem.

Hi gz9gig, Thanks for the reminder. Unfortunately, I'm on a low salt diet for my heart and take a diuretic daily(and the accompanying potassium). So I really do walk a tightrope. It's good to be reminded of the symptoms of low electrolites. Thanks!
