Multiplicity1's Journal, 01 April 2010

I am falling behind on some of my tasks because I have such a busy life now! I need to spend some time making out new menus and finding new recipes which are critically important tasks to keep me on track. I did fit in my 45 min. walk and a trip to Walmart to buy some vitamins and some dinosaur shirts for my grandsons (no Easter candy from me). On a totally irrelevant note my teenager was talking about her college schedule last night and she was teasing me about auditing her forensic anthropology class (because I like Bones and CSI and that kind of thing) and she said I could be in her class as long as I don't make eye contact w/her. I asked her what about the fact that we have the same last name she said "OH!" She's lucky I can't afford to take the class or I'd do it now just to embarrass her. I'll steal her book when she's done w/the class though.
The Beck Diet Solution task for today is to set a realistic goal. The author discussed how important is was to set short term goals along the way to a long term goal such as a large weight loss. She mentioned setting a 5 lb. loss goal as an example of a short term goal.

Setting short term goals is very important, especially if you have a significant amount of weight to lose. Who wants to keep thinking they have 80 lbs to lose (my example)? I'd much rather take these into smaller more realistic goals that I can succeed in relatively soon, instead of a year or so from now. You are doing so well. How do you plan on rewarding yourself for making this?

Hi, I know you from "Need some buddies" on Atkins. I am one of the main group of Kayla, Danellie, Annie, Shelley, Norma, and Jo. Some new ones are you, daniyork, Sherrie. You are doing great. We all have ups and downs. But we are all here for each other. I like the idea of the Beck Diet Solution. Although I have not read it only know it from your comments on it on Atkins. Take those suggestions to heart. I only focus on only getting rid of the 160's now. 2,5, or whatever lbs at a time till I'm out of them. Anyway, I don't visit here as often as My buddy group for I need them so. Take care and keep focused. We will get to our ultimate goal; one small goal at a time. Neesee/Neesar :)

I did Atkins at one point, and failed to go on maintenance when I should have, so it was hard to maintain the loss... and I eventually gained more than I had lost. I'm now back below were I was at the beginning of Atkins, and I think setting realistic goals is going to be the secret to my keeping it off this time. Once I get to 215, for instance, I'll have lost 10% of what I weighed before I started on Feb 23, and that's a huge health marker. Once I get below 200, I'll be lighter than I've been in a long time, and I should be able to see marked improvement in my health. I'll likely stop there for a while to see how well I can maintain there before I work to get more off. Ultimately, Ideally, it'd be great to get to 125, 102 pounds lighter than now, but if I aimed for that now, I'll never get there.

I've never done the small goals, just one big one! I think it's all about your state of mind. Either you're ready to stick it out for the long haul or aren't. Short goals, long goals, whatever... it's all going to take a long time! I guess my consistent "short term goal" is to lose one pound. And that is always the goal. And I have met it 85 times now :)

I just set a goal to lose each week and sometimes it actually happens. I do though have a reward every 10lbs..something for me..not vacuum cleaner bags or a new pot...no no something nice and maybe smelly like a candle that doesnt smell like food. Andrea you just keep busy your on a roll, its time to get it done.

You ARE doing great!! Hang in there... As for me, I do what is mentioned above and set a reward for a 10 lb loss...as soon as I get to my next "decade" (I like to call them that) I will be treating myself to a pedicure! Oh my tootsies can't wait!!!

oh, and by the way, if you call the college, I bet you could take the course as an Audit (no actual college credits) at a VERY reduced (if any) cost! you're just a phone call away...
