I watched several talks on TED. One was by Dr McDougalls about what he calls the "human diet", in other words the diet our bodies are designed for and what is best for us. He says a high starch diet is the human diet. It's what our teeth are best at and our digestive system. Historically, it is what our diet has been until the industrial revolution. He points out that in the past Kings and Queens, royalty, priests and priestess were the only one rich enough for animal protein and refined foods as sugars...and they were fat and sickly! Makes a lot of sense. I am going to use his recipes, within the WW point system. His diet is close to Forks over knives too, a basically vegetarian diet. So off I go...lol

I ate strictly McDougall in the 1980s and it almost killed me. But YMMV.

I've been doing fok for 5 weeks now. Hit 20 pounds down today & see been feeling better than I ever did doing keto. The best part is whenever I get hungry, I eat. If I'm still hungry, I eat more. No portion control, no calorie counting, no food logging, & no being hungry. The it's not for everyone, but it's working for me. Cheers

It all depends on your digestive system and activity level. I ate vegetarian this summer - beams, lentils, rice, vegetables, bread & PB&J. I put on weight, although other people who are more active than I am are slim and healthy. Just depends on your individual metabolism. Me, if I even dare to look at a starchy carb, my weight goes up! But good luck on whatever you try😁

I'm starting in January to try to totally eliminate processed foods. Asked my doctor what I could eat and he said lots of vegetables and also fruit, nuts and beans. He has also said to eliminate dairy. I basically gave up everything but 8-10 oz of skim milk each day but I am going to try hard to give that up too. He said if I really want milk to have almond milk. I tried it, it's okay, but I mostly use it to add to fruit smoothies. After all the frozen meat, chicken, pork chops are gone from the freezer I am going to try to go vegetarian. My plan is due to higher levels of total cholesterol and LDL on recent lab tests and way too high inflammation. So it sounds similar to what you are doing janstromberg and Dryphytyr.

I started giving up all processed foods about 3 years ago in an effort to go "no added salt" anything processed, package, canned seems to have added salt...now use dried and dehydrated a lot..fresh vegs as much as I can (in Alaska fresh is a relative thing lol)...your doctor is right on Fritzy

It's all about what works for you! Good luck 😊

Kmgking40 - you are right, so many different WOEs work for different people. Health issues are really dictating what I have to do right now. If my lab tests in June show a significant improvement - I'll know the diet worked.

a lot of people on here are doing keto, which is super bad

Ezequiel - it works for a lot of people here, but it's not for everybody. Whole food plant based eating also works for a lot of people, but it's also not for everybody. The main thing is what works for the person doing it.

Plant-based mostly raw sank my boat horrifically some years back. Keto has been super healing. Blessings on your journey!

cooked plant based is better than raw

We might have been designed for high starch/plant diet, but our bodies were not made for the food processing revolution, and how well we store fat. Carbs are like drugs to me. My lazy body says carbs are easy and fat is harder to get energy. I'm holding the carbs back and trying to burn that stored fat. Keto has been a reality check for me.
