Hermiones Mom's Journal, 10 April 2016

I'm so glad the Peruvians invented ceviche -- one of the few really delicious things you can eat and not have to feel guilty about. Odd, though-- the listing for ceviche in the FS food index show higher carbs than I would have expected. I'm going to look it up elsewhere to see what it says. But I was happy to go celebrate Peruvian election day. The politics are so nutty there, there will certainly be a run off and my friend Charo will have to come into town to vote again, and we'll go have Peruvian food again. The government will make her pay $50 if she doens't vote, so needless to say, most people vote. We need a law like that here!-- either that or you should be prohibited from complaining about anything if you haven't voted. Just my two cents.

Ceviche is absolutely delicious. The nutrition you get from it is so useful for your body too! Enjoy and keep doing what you're doing! :)

I crave ceviche, Japanese Zombie, and I am so lucky to be in Chicago where we have several very good Peruvian restaurants. But honestly, none of them equals what I ate in Lima. I know it's very nutritious, so I don't begrudge myself the calories.

It will never be the same as going out of country. Food tastes different. I'm actually Romanian. I cook Romanian food at home, but it doesn't have the same taste as when I go back to my home country. Food is treated differently. In most cases there are less preservatives and handling. Our chicken was fresh killed from the country house. The chicken I get here is in plastic and styrofoam containers. Definitely different!

HCB - I was in Peru in 2009 and did the Macchu Pichu trip. Hope to go back -- maybe as soon as next year as there's so much more to see. Luckily, I traveled there with a Peruvian which really made it special.
